“Stay here,” I tell him walking through the grass towards Packard. Kong had fallen and they were placing bombs all around him. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Conrad and Mason waiting in the grass, I don’t think they have seen me yet.

“Packard!” Conrad yells running forward. He and Mason stand in between Packard and the fallen gorilla. I stay hidden and watch as Hank puts his katana to Cole’s neck and his gun to Mills' head. Everyone had their guns aimed at each other in a massive standoff.

“We don’t want to fight here,” Mason said breaking the silence.

“This thing brought us down!” Packard exclaims, waving around the detonator. “It killed my men!”

“Kong was just defending his home,” Hank responds and Packard side-eyes him.

“We are soldiers! We do the dirty work, so our families and countrymen don’t have to be afraid! They shouldn’t even know a thing like this exists!” He screams pointing the detonator at the still sleeping Kong.

“Put that detonator down,” Conrad says. Packard just takes that as a challenge and steps forward, flipping the cover off the button, a high-pitched squeal starts up.

I take that as my cue and sprint at him from behind, he doesn’t realize I’m there until it’s too late. I use the blunt side of my katana to flick the detonator out of his hand, hoping Conrad will catch it. Luckily, he does, and I put Packard in a headlock with my katana threatening to slit his throat.

“I thought I made myself clear last time we spoke,” I spit through my teeth. He doesn’t dare move, knowing I will not hesitate to kill him.

“The world is bigger than this,” Mason says.

“Bitch please!” Packard growls, “Slivko, get her off of me!” Slivko was the only soldier that didn’t have a gun or blade threatening their life, but he still had his gun aimed at Conrad. He looked at Packard, then at me, shaking more than ever.

“No,” He said and dropped his gun to the ground. Well, I was not expecting that.

“Excuse m-” Packard started until I tightened my grip and pushed the blade closer to his neck. I looked up again to see Mills drop his gun, followed by Reles, then the rest of the soldiers. Cole was the last one to drop his, but he still did. I got so distracted by watching them disobey their Colonel, that he took the chance to disarm me.

He slipped out of my hold and twisted my arm to where the katana in my hand was now held against my own throat. Slivko went to pick up his gun again, but Packard pushed the blade against my neck causing him to stop and put his arms up in surrender.

“Think about what your-” Slivko started but was interrupted by the ground shaking uncontrollably and water starts to move as a giant hole in the lake appears. A skullcrawler that could challenge Kong in size jumped and landed in the lake, staring at Kong and the group.

“Fall back,” Conrad says, and everyone does except for Slivko, him, and Packard still holding me, the blade now pressed slightly into my neck, blood starting to drip down my collarbone.

“Packard!” Conrad screamed. “Let her go and run!” But Packard just stared down the skullcrawler, not letting go of me.

“Get out of here,” I croaked out.

“Not without you!” Slivko yelled. Conrad held him from running to me.

“Go live your life Red,” I said staring into his gleaming brown eyes, tears falling down his face as Conrad practically picked him up and carried him away.
Packard finally stopped staring at the giant lizard and looked at me.
