i'm low on gas, and you need a jacket
"Maybe we could see each other again? Preferably without your friends?" The muffled voice continued as Dru stayed focused on her boss from down the hall, who was currently yelling at one of the janitors. "Dru?" The voice asked, as her attention refocused onto Brian before her.
"I'm sorry, what were you saying?" She asked, realizing he had probably been talking for a minute now. He sighed in annoyance, before standing from his chair outside the small museum café.
"I was wondering if I could take you out again. Just us." He cut it short this time. She desperately wanted to shout no, call him an obscene name, and rush off, but for starters, his father was a huge donor to the museum, and if she insulted his son, well, that date wouldn't be the only thing lost.
"Um, yeah. I'll have to get back to you on that. I've just been really busy with some family stuff and work. But uh, I'll call you?" She knew full well she would absolutely not be calling him.
"That works." He smiled, while grabbing his briefcase and walking off. Staring at the empty chair, she pushed the it in for him and walked over to Bianca, who just finished laying into the poor man. As he walked off, clearly bothered by whatever the wicked witch of the east said, the two made brief eye contact before Dru turned to Bianca.
"Do you have the paper work from Alexander's office?" She demanded, holding her hand out.
"I do." Dru pulled the sheet from her binder and placed it into her palm. Bianca pulled it in, and quickly turned away. Dru was used to this type of situation at this point. Bianca usually just walking away, meant Dru could now clock out, and go home. But Bianca really put a damper on her day. First, she was furious about her latte being too cold, then angry that Dru wasn't there four minutes early for her shift. As if that was a valid reason. Dru was just tired of being surrounding by pretentious assholes who think they're better than everyone, but here she was, suffering through it.
Draco Malfoy sat on his sofa, staring out the window to the hectic city ahead. His mind was racing with anticipation. He felt he was wasting away in these foreign cities, and he just wanted to do something for once. But, a huge part of him really didn't want to go home. It was almost as if he just wished he could disappear. Evaporate into thin air and leave this hell of a life. What was life for, if not worth living? He constantly wondered. Pushing his feelings aside, he gathered his ego and confidence once again, before standing up, and grabbing his glass of whiskey.
A girl, around the age of 21, woke from his room, and climbed out of bed. The two of them had quite a long night, so her sleeping in wasn't exactly unordinary. He got used to them not waking when he tried to force them up. Especially after both of them drinking heavily at the bar the night before, he was surprised she didn't sleep longer.
The girl forced her short blonde hair into a tight bun, and stood from Draco's bed. Rummaging through his hamper, she pulled out a large oversized shirt and threw it on. Not only was it an old shirt, it happened to be a shirt from Hogwarts, with a simple Slytherin sigil patched onto the left corner. Not noticing, or really caring, she walked out of the room, finding herself bumping into the handsome man she had shagged all night. "Hey." She smiled, feeling accomplished for bagging such a hottie, as she would say. Her friends would absolutely be jealous.
"Hello." He sighed, wishing she'd just get her things and get out. Brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, Draco's eyes looked to the familiar serpent. "Where'd you find that?" He asked as she looked down and back to him.
"It was in your hamper." She leaned into his body slightly, pressing her hands against his chest. His hands went up, grabbing her wrists tightly. But not too tight to where she was in pain, just enough to show the effect of his anger.
"Take it off." He demanded, as her brows arched up, happily.
"As you wish," she tried to pull the shirt over her head when he stopped her again.
"I mean go in there, take it off, grab your shit, and get out." He snapped, feeling all sympathy leave his body, and just filling up with anger and rage. He hated the reminders of his previous life, even if he never seemed to part with them. The girl pulled away, taken back by his demeanor. "Go!" He said a little louder, wondering why he doesn't just think with his head instead of, well, you know. She reluctantly walked back to where she came from, slamming the door behind her, and proceeded to change.
A knock on the front door startled Draco, as he huffed, not wanting to deal with anyone else for the day. Walking out of the hall and to the kitchen, he opened the door to see a face in which couldn't keep him mad. "Hi." The voice greeted.
"Hey, Dru." He shoved his hand awkwardly into his front pant pocket.
"I uh, thought I should return this. Sorry it took a few days." He held out his black jacket and he chuckled, grabbing onto it. A sudden opening of his bedroom door cause both their heads to whip in the direction of the random woman he had brought home. The girl, too, was shocked by seeing another woman already here, and she rolled her eyes, before hastily storming out. Draco felt, well, unnerved. Letting out a sigh, he opened his mouth to apologize, but was caught of guard by laughter. "You sure like to piss off women, don't you?" Dru asked, as his frown turned into a faint grin once more.
"Would you like to come in?" He asked after her laughter silenced. She nodded, following him through the door. She had never been inside of Draco's flat before, as really the two had only ever just met outside the entrance of the building. So it was weird to see a little insight to this mysterious mans world. Glancing around, it didn't take long for her to realize he was a simple kind of guy. Place was kept tidy, but there really wasn't much to it in the first place. No art on the walls, pillows or blankets on the sofa, not even a television. She couldn't begin to comprehend how he kept himself busy, but then again, the constant girls coming out of the place was proof he sure found ways. "Drink?" He asked, snapping her from her thoughts as she looked over to him already pouring a glass. Draco Malfoy sure did love whiskey.
"Sure." She smiled, as he walked to her, handing the glass, and then turning back to the kitchen where he began getting one for himself. Continuing to glance around, she noticed a photograph placed on one of the side tables. A young boy with bright blonde hair, standing beside a beautiful woman, who she assumed had to have been his mother. The similarities were uncanny, and he looked to be only roughly 12 to 13. "This your mom?" She asked, curiously as he returned, halting briefly, before slowly approaching and seating himself on the sofa. She followed his lead.
"Yeah, it is." He hesitated, eyeing her carefully.
"She's stunning." Dru smiled, continuing to glance at the photo. His robes were different, to say the least. She wondered what he was dressed up for, and figured maybe it was some sort of Halloween costume. But something about the picture felt oddly, nostalgic.
