||Kai's POV||

"Sir Daichi needs his time, fair maiden and when he needs me, I have to be away."

Some of his last words to me bounced back and forth in my head while I tossed and turned.

I had known and understood the bargain when I became his main servant.

From time to time, Tobio would be called to his fellow people in Miyagi for about a week and I would try to do my best to keep Kyoto running like clockwork.

But this time was different.

He should have been home weeks ago. Whatever Daichi had called him over for, it must have been important.

What if he was in an accident?

That was impossible. The King of the court had never been such a careless person.

There's always a first time.

Had I still been an assassin, the king sending me thoughts, would have been killed for such blasphemy.

But I'm a Kageyama servant now. No longer an assassin and no longer at risk for low-level street cat calling.

These were my own thoughts.

They terrifiy me.

They kept coming as my mind began to make a list of mortal enemies.

The one's who laughed at my master. The one's who mocked his attitude. The Haters

For the third, sightings had been few and he had never seemed interested in the King.

"Hello, Kai-chan"

I tried to sit up from the bed, but he pinned me to it.

There were bruises on his torso.

His eyes were still the deep cold black.

"Tobio!" My arms were released and I wrapped them around his torso. "You were gone too long"

He growled "Hinata was making trouble again. More than he could handle, as Daichi and I have just proved" He nuzzled into the hand I rested on his face. "I have missed you, my idiot"

I pulled him down for a kiss that speckled across his whole face.

He took it all with a contented sigh.

The weight of weeks of running around, collapsed on top of me as he let his arms relax.

He gave me just enough space to breathe, but I felt it all the same.

His muscles rippled as I trailed my fingertips across his skin. Any other day, night, or second that passed in the world, or under any other circumstances, he would have raged at my question.

"Let me make you feel good?"

Softly, he kissed my forehead. "No" He took a deep breath and fell to lay on his back.

I curled into his side, half-draping myself over him. He was home. He was safe. He was with me. "Kai-chan?"

"Yes, my king?"

He smiled. I always knew what he needed to hear. "How much time do I have to make up for?"

The game. I loved this game.

"Three weeks, my king."

"No" he drawled, unbelieving.

"Tell me truthfully, dumbass, how much time to I have to make up for? Take into account the annoyance of the horrible weather of Kyoto"
