I had a sleepless night that night. Leave? I have always wanted to leave but now as i lay on my bed staring at the ceiling i'm having second guesses about everything. What will it be like out in the wasteland? i have only been out there for three days and that was when we were moving towns and i know it was tough. Mutated animals attacked ever mile and we had a close encounter with a muttie but luckily a bunch of slavers distracted them. It was still tough out there and now i'm going to enter it again and this time it is different, i know we won't be as lucky as we were last time. You go to the bar and hear people's stories and how horrifying they are and you fear that is going to happen to you and now my risks are higher. Miles told me his getting some guns for us and i'm sure he will knowing him but i don't know how to use one and we still need to get food, water, medical equipment and we also need to decide where we are going. I want to go towards the city because i know that's far enough away but the thing is it's too far. Maybe we should set our eyes on something closer. I remember someone talking about this town that is across a bridge called apple tree settlement. Apparently it is meant to be good, law isn't as strict but nothing gets across the bridge unless they approve of it so raiders are not a problem and it has so much more than this crummy town. I think with the right amount of pins we will be able to make it. We have to walk the whole way because we can't waste any money on a horse and a cart and cars are for the rich who don't even dare to drive them in the wasteland, it attracts too much attention; can't say i have ever seen one myself but i've heard about them, a young lady told me about how they have them in Vegas once.
I got up the next morning and put on my only other pair of clothes which is a blue button up shirt that ends just above my bellybutton, i wear black cargo pants with the same dirty navy boots and a black belt. I decide to tie my hair back into a pony tail. I walk down the tin stairs and see Tyler still asleep on the ruined burnt couch which i found for only 40 pins which is cheep for a couch and i was expecting it to be filled with pestspiders which are spiders that act like rats.
I try not to wake him up as I ransack my draws for spare pins before going out to collect my pay. He has had such a big night and he needs the sleep. Something draws my eye when i'm walking to the door. It's a piece of paper that's on the floor near the door, it's dirty and ripped. On it has the words WERE WATCHING YOU written on it in red, looks almost like blood but it's not. I get goose bumps. I scrunch the paper up and open the door urgently searching to see anyone that is near the house but it's clear, the streets are clear, it's early morning and the sun isn't completely shining yet, its also really cool. I can't leave Tyler here alone.
"Tyler!" i hiss at him as we walk through the street towards old man's Subborns farm "keep your hood down and stay close. I'm taking you to Miles house." We are the only people in the street and even though i know Miles lives with his parents i know he will take Tyler in for me while i go to old mans Subbon's place with Sabina. She lives next door to Miles anyway so i need to go that way anyway. Miles house has a windows so there is more than one way to get Tyler in and then i don't have to knock on the door.
Miles is still asleep but i tap on the window anyway. He rolls out of bed with no shirt on and frowns at me on the other side of the glass, i urge him to open the window. "Honey what have i told you about knocking on my window?" he jokes poking his head out of the window "Tyler." something tells me Miles hasn't forgiven Tyler for last night and i don't blame him. Tyler looks up at him from under his hood and then stares back down at his feet. "Miles, i need to hide Tyler here while i go down to Subborn's farm with Sabina." I whisper looking back pointing at Tyler over my shoulder as I say his name.
"What? No way!" he argues "My parents find out and his done."
