"Hey," Justin whispered, shaking me awake.
"What?" I groaned, hugging my pillow to my face.
"What is that?"
"What's w-" I sat up at the sound, then I stood up, walking over to the door.
"Wait, Lauren, what is it?"
"It's Hailee, Justin." I told him, ducking out of our room to hers.
"Hailee?"
Next thing I know he was jogging by me, flying around the corner up the stairs into her room.
He hadn't been around for her nightmares, I mean he had been, but I think some nights he was so tired he never woke up, when he was first hurt, it killed him to even move, and by the time he was better, she wasn't having the nightmares anymore.
"Shhh," Justin said as I walked in, Hailee's face buried in his chest as she cried into him. "It was just a dream. You're fine."
"I'm sorry." She said through her tears.
"Don't apologize baby." He sat down with her, fixing her on his lap. "What happened?"
"The car - and the people..."
"I have them too, but they're not real."
"I know, that's what Mommy said."
"Mommy's right. Don't cry sweetheart. Give Daddy a big hug."
And he squeezed her in his arms, kissing the top of her head as she calmed down.
"Who loves you?" He asked her.
"You and Mommy."
"More than the whole wide world."
"I love you too."
"How about we go get you some water, ok?"
"Mhm." She nodded, rubbing her eyes with her hands.
Justin stood up, his eyebrows frowned together as he looked at her, then looked up at me.
"Go ahead back to bed baby, I got her."
"Ok." I nodded, wiping a few of Hailee's stray tears away and kissed her forehead. "Goodnight sweetie."
"Night Mommy."
I went back to our room, snuggling back into the covers and turned on my side, running my hand along my stomach.
"Hi Aria," I laughed. "How are you doing? Are you sleeping?"
I stayed quiet, smiling into my pillow as I waited for Justin to come back.
I couldn't believe she was still having those nightmares.
It felt like me as a child all over again, but what I went through was completely different.
Justin was a great father.
A few minutes passed, and I felt myself drifting off, but then Justin came back in, crawling in slowly beside me as if not to wake me.
"I'm awake." I laughed, reaching out for him. "How is she?"
"I got her to fall back asleep. She's ok."
