Andrei's POV

Beeping sounds of machines could be heard just outside the hospital door. I desperately wanted to see her, and I knew she'd be in terrible shape. I stood right outside the door, trying to gather up the willpower to walk in. Come on, you are a mafia leader, open the fucking door.

I stood there for a few more seconds, inhaling and exhaling. I placed my hand on the door handle, and I remembered that the nurse was behind me. I slightly turned around towards her with a scowl on my face and she took off running.

I turned back around and pulled down the door handle. The door opened and I immediately closed my eyes and walked inside. I closed the door behind me and laid my head on the door itself.

Come on, you got this. The beeping sounds became more prominent, and I must admit that I was terrified of turning around.

I exhaled and finally turned around, opening my eyes. Tears immediately came to my eyes and I choked on my sobs. I did this. I am to blame. I should have learned more about her and where she came from. She wouldn't have been here and back in the hands of the person who caused her pain.

I was too busy being enveloped by her beauty and stubbornness. If I had looked at it from her point of view and understood, I wouldn't have left the house and we would be together, safe and sound with our baby. But no, I had to put them both in danger. Fuck you, Andrei.

I wiped the tears from my eyes and walked closer to the bandaged figure on the bed. Her stomach was covered in bandages along with her head. Tubes extended from her mouth and towards a machine. Her beautiful eyes were closed and she looked almost lifeless.

I clenched my jaw hard as I sat in the chair beside her. I began caressing her beautiful dark skin and her hair that was all over the place. I laughed at the memory, as she always made an effort to tame her hair.

"You have to come back to me mladenets. I need you here. I can't-I won't live without you. I'm sorry for the way I acted and I hope we can both forgive each other. You need to wake up and get better for yourself and our baby. I love you with all my heart. Please don't leave me. " I said to her unconscious body, hoping that she heard me. I placed a kiss on her head and on her belly. [Baby]

"Papa lyubit tebya, malyshk" [Daddy loves you, little one/baby]

I heard a knock on the door and the doctor walked inside. I looked up at him and leaned back in the chair. "Hello, Mr. Antonov," he said, holding a clipboard in his hands. My face remained stoic and I gave him a stiff nod.

He swallowed, looked at the clipboard, and began talking. "They both, as you may have heard from the nurse you sent to the surgery room," he said sarcastically.

I so badly wanted to make him eat those papers he was holding.

"The bullet went through Ms. Gabrielle's abdominal wall, but since she is pregnant, her uterus muscles are now thick, which slowed the bullet from doing further damage. It contributed to the fetus' and mother's superficial injury. He said.

"She also has a concussion, I'm assuming from falling. During the surgery, she went into v-fib, meaning her heart basically stopped because of stress and she wasn't breathing on her own. Hence, the intubation. We'll keep an eye on her to see if she can breathe on her own before removing the tube.

She is currently on sedatives and opioids to keep her comfortable and speed up the healing process. When she is conscious and tested, further details will be given," he said, and walked out of the room.

I am relieved to hear that they are both okay. She just needs to start breathing on her own. "Come on, baby, you need to get better and start breathing on your own. "You've got this," I said quietly to her.
