"They always say life gets better. I'm living proof this isn't true." - Y/N L/N

(Y/N POV)

After about a 20 minute walk, I had finally arrived at my quaint home. I could see the lights shining through the windows, lighting up the front yard and porch of the home. I took a deep breath and exhaled, then walked inside the house. I kicked my shoes off and walked into the living room, greeted by my mother sitting there waiting for me. I sat down on the couch across from her, ready for the coming lecture.

"And what took you so long young man?! It's almost 12:30 in the morning and you didn't even bring any groceries back, which mind you, was the whole reason you went out in the first place!"

I huffed and crossed my arms before speaking, "Mom, chill out... I was coming home but I stopped at a local Dust shop to load up on some ammo for Sunspot when it was robbed by some carrot top prick. To put everything in short, me and a girl named Ruby fought off the prick and his henchmen until a Huntress showed up. The Huntress took us to an interrogation room where Professor Ozpin met us, and he gave us the offer to go to Beacon."

Mom's glare quickly turned into a look of surprise, which then turned into a look of pure joy. She smiled brightly before getting up and scooping me up in a huge hug. I grumbled and loosely hugged her back, hiding my left arm to avoid her seeing the scars.

"I'm so happy for you honey! I knew everything would work out in the end. I hope you know how proud I am of you!"

I gave a light chuckle pulling away from her embrace.

"Thanks, mom... I'm gonna head to bed now. I need to catch up on sleep and fix my sleep schedule. I have to be at Beacon for initiation in 2 weeks, so I'll be packing the stuff I need and sending it over."

Mom nodded and gave a wide smile.

"Goodnight Y/N, sleep well!"

I gave a small smile back and waved at her before walking up the stairs. I opened the door to my room to see the well-cleaned space. I gave a content sigh and grabbed my nightclothes, which were just another long-sleeve shirt and a pair of shorts. Walking into the bathroom, I turned the knob in the shower to get the water running. I made sure it was at the right temperature before turning to look at myself in the mirror. The events of today were rolling through my mind, especially the talk with Ozpin.

I can't believe I did it... I got accepted to Beacon... but it was merely luck. I don't deserve this... Ruby did most of the work. It was a nice change of pace to have good luck for once but... I didn't get accepted into Beacon because I was good enough. It was all luck..

A reflection of light caught my eye, and I turned my gaze from the mirror to look over at whatever was shining. A pack of extra razors I had bought a few days earlier for shaving was there. A sudden wave came over me and I went back into my depressive state. My arms started itching and my breathing accelerated. Everything around me seemed to be a blur, and the thumping of my heart got louder and louder. I slowly opened the pack and took one of the blades in my hand. I rolled my left sleeve up and brought my shaking hand along with the blade down.
