The first thing he saw was a room he felt familiar with. His head ached heavily, accompanied by a sense of loss. Shimmering eyes scanned the space, bare feet leaving the blankets comfort before pressing to the floorboards. His body was stiff, leaving him to slightly wobble before balance was gained. Grumbling killed the silence, his nose lifting higher into the air. Each inhale gave him endless information. The one smell that lured him was addictive. It forced each step to be without order. He tore the door free, not worried about the strength behind the action. His dressed body moved carelessly down the hall, his mind urging him to reach the growing voice. The two smells were potent, both bringing his heart rising.
The closer he got, the more his walk began to grow faster. At some point, he was fully sprinting. As the door approached, he stopped dead in his tracks. Each finger gripped the sliding door carefully, pulling it with ease. It made little sound, his body stepping beyond the plain as he found himself in a new room. It was vast, widely open. Voices and countless scents played into his mind, his gaze falling to the two figures he knew most. The two that brought every memory flooding him. Those tears he felt were endless, fingers touching the warm liquid. His voice was broken as he spoke out, the volume low but able to be heard.
"Muzan... N-Nezuko..." The two had not noticed the other's presence. No one had. Those words drew both gazes, Nezuko nearly breaking down upon seeing her one and only brother. The only family she had left in life. Her body rose without question, the distance being closed as arms pulled Tanjirou closer to her. Her wails and tears brought a tension as Tanjirou attempted to calm her. He could feel the difference in her, but dismissed it. Hearing another set of footsteps, Tanjirou met those gorgeous eyes of the man he fell in love with.
"Glad you're finally awake, Tanjirou. We both missed you greatly." There was a soft smile as Tanjirou felt his sister hold him tighter. She was scared he wasn't real. That this was a dream. He hummed as he hugged her back, letting his voice show his genuine joy. Even if he was a Demon, he was back where he belonged. Back with his family. This was his home.
"I am back Nezuko, forever and always. Your older brother won't ever leave you again, I promise."
(Years Later)
Tanjirou had spent countless years aiding Muzan. He had learned who his enemy was, even understanding his sister had chosen her own path. He too had chosen. He was the enemy of humans and never once thought it was wrong. They had tried to kill him even when he was their own. It only made his rage deeper. He'd never forgive them. Not in a hundred years. All the pain and rage he'd felt, he was willing to pour it on the humans. To tear their society to ribbons. They deserved no remorse, not by his hands nor anyone's. Humanity was desperate and a disgrace in his books. Even so, there were those Tanjirou found to forgive. Including the one person who was close to his heart, even as a Demon. The only human that Tanjirou could never hold anger over.
Standing outside a house, he smiled briefly. The sun bore down on him, another feat of his. Just as his sister was immune, he too suffered none by the sun. It was his friend, a partner that sheltered him in warmth. Glancing to the door, he could feel one presence inside. A slight knock resonated before the footsteps approached. Each second felt endless before those doors were opened. The figure before him seemed to drop what they were holding, those tears streaming as emotionless eyes softened. Tanjirou couldn't hide his smile as he opened his eyes wide, the other falling into the hug.
"I finally came back, just as I promised, Giyuu-san. I've come to take you home."
The Demon corpse had never been the same. Each year the Hashira suffered, especially once Giyuu abandoned his duties. He had vanished from them, following the reappearance of the siblings. Those Demon siblings brought terror everywhere they walked, sparing few. It was always a blood bath and the Demon Slayers knew who was at fault. Their actions that day had led to this future. Most of the Hashira knew hope was pointless. Muzan was stronger than ever and the siblings both countered the one weakness. Hope had been lost long ago.
That didn't mean they didn't try. Each attempt ended in a loss on them. Eventually it was deemed pointless and Demon Corpse fell apart. Kagaya was murdered within his own safe home, leaving proof there was an end coming and it wasn't favoring the humans. Demons were growing rapidly, while humans were losing faith. They would hide and flee, afraid for their life. But that was simply their world. They were brought to the edge and knew that.
Over the years, even the breathing techniques were lost. Humanity was crumbling by the hands of Muzan and not a soul could do a thing. The siblings were thriving, living life with their newest member to the Uppermoon. Giyuu had willingly joined, simply to be with his family. Tanjirou had once more gained his haori back, wielding a sword to spite the old days. The past that would be long forgotten. He once showed remorse. He once was sympathetic and kind. But society crushed it all. His rage and hatred was his path and he'd see it to the end. He'd assure his family got a future worth living in. That was his oath. An oath forged in blood of those who he once considered a friend. To those he spared a glance and gentle gaze to. He was a harbinger of death and he'd make sure the world remembered him. Remembered Muzan. The true ruler of the accursed world.
