"Kids, come downstairs for dinner! " shouted Juline.

"Coming!" the triplets called in unison.

Dex said nothing, but came down the stairs nonetheless. He wasn't particularly excited for dinner, because it forced him to stop working on his project. Dex was currently working on a gadget to help Keefe, and he had never been so invested in a project like this before. Dex wouldn't stop - he couldn't stop - until he found something that worked.

"Dinner's ready!" said Sage (one of Dex's personal favorite gnomes), who was carrying a huge platter of Fluffcreams, along with six bottles of Lushberry Juice. Dex grinned, enjoying the smell. It felt like pure heaven in his mouth when he bit into his treat.

Taking a sip of Lushberry Juice, Dex was startled by Sophie's voice filling his mind.

Dex? Dex, I need to talk to you.

Dex was so surprised, he choked on his juice.

Sophie! You scared me. Let me go to my lab, one minute.

"Dex?!" Juline exclaimed, concerned. The triplets turned to him and laughed at the Lushberry juice dripping on his shirt. Dex coughed a few times before swallowing.

"I-I'm fine," he stammered, "I just need to g-get back to work." Dex sprinted back to his lab before his family could object.

Sorry Sophie, I was at dinner, but I'm here now. What's going on? He quickly sat down on a stool near the scraps of metal on his floor.

Is Keefe doing okay? I haven't been able to talk to him since he went with Elwin to Splendor Plains. Even though he couldn't see her, Dex could imagine Sophie's concerned look along with the crease in her brow.

I went to see him yesterday, and he's kind of a mess. He hasn't really been talking. I guess he's too afraid that every word will make something bad happen.

Yeah, but there has to be something I can do. Dex could almost hear the pain in her voice as she transmitted this.

I'm working on this . . . idea. It's hard to explain . . . He trailed off. Dex didn't want Sophie to freak out about him trying to replicate an ability restrictor. Maybe you should transmit with him?

Good idea! I'll try that later, for now, I don't want to keep you away from your work, so I'll go. Luna and Wynn need snuggles anyways. I'll come by tomorrow, okay? Sophie transmitted.

Actually, my dad is taking me to Splendor Plains tomorrow to test some of his elixirs, and if I can finish this . . . thing, then we'll test that too. How about you come by tomorrow night and I can give you a summary of what happens.

Alright, keep me updated. And thank you for everything. Dex could practically hear the relief in Sophie's voice. He got back to work, praying he could finish by dawn.
