More Than Words Can Say

A lover woos and wins her heart.
they become one as birds in trees sing.
a moment past but for a wandering poet
passing by who regards their bliss.

Mere words hold no more than a memory dear
but the poet renews this moment
in thoughts and feelings more than words can say
forever fresh and free within the poem.

A parade passes loudly by, thrilling, and jubilant.
Horns and drums and flags and cheers
As people crowd together to celebrate
a day held dear to hearts and souls.

A poet in the crowd shouts along
later recalls the day in a poem
so all may share more than words can say
a day long past and ever new.

The poet writes, and the poem
restores what is gone and past
perhaps forgotten, dim memories
newly made when the poem is shared.
