As the soft breeze of the morning wind passws through the open window, the lithe figure lying on he bed shivers, pulling at the comforter to keep him warm.
A few minutes have passed before he heard it... the soft thud of a foot padding to his room before he heard the door opening.
Not long after,he heard a small giggle and he readied himself for what he knew was coming.
The figure on the bed, Shu Yi, let out a small grunt as the small figure of a boy threw himself on his father. "Otosan, good morning!"
"Good morning to you too,my sunshine." A gentle smile brightened his face as the boy clung to his father, raining kisses on his face making Shuyi let out a hearty laughter.
"Okay, okay, I'm up! I'm up" Only then did the boy stopped as he pulled away from his father and grinned.
"Seiichi's been a good boy, otosan."
Shuyi narrowed his eyes at his son suspiciously. Whenever Seiichi let those words out, it's either he did something that he knew can get his father angry or he wants something.
"I bet you have. I'm gonna have to ask grandma about that." He teased
"Really! I ate my vegetables and put my toys away. I also did my home work and got 5 stars!" Seiichi said proudly.
As he watch his sons antics, he can't help but wish for that one person to be with him, them but that's impossible right now. Moving his gaze away from his son, he stared at a picture frame on his bed side table.
Gao Shi De.
"I'm hooommmmme!"
Just then, a loud voice from downstairs echoed throughout the house. Shu Yi doesn't know who moved faster, him or his son. Just that the next thing he knew, he was running towards Gao Shi De himself while Seiichi clung to his other father's side.
"Papa, you're finally back!" Seiichi raised his hands until his papa picked him up, planting a long kiss on his lips."I didn't tell otosan. I did good right?"
A laughter that he'll never get tired of hearing reached Shuyi's ears snd he felt his heart gets filled with the overwhelming love his has towards this man.
"Shu Yi?" Gao Shi De called for his husband who seems to have been hypnotized, just staring at him.
Yes, husband. Zhou Shu Yi is Gao Shi De's Husband.
6 years ago, he returned to Taiwan from the US. Even though Gao Shi De believed he already destroyed what he and Shu Yi had with his own hands, he still prayed that Shu Yi will still give him a chance to redeem himself, to make up for their lost time. With the hurt and pain that he put Shu Yi through, it's really no surpise that the other hated him.
He was willing to do just about anything to get Shu Yi back in his life. However, when Shu Yi didn't show up on their wedding day,he accepted his fate. It was what he deserves after all. A life without Shu Yi.
He was going to Shu Yi and ask him for forgiveness one last time when the accident happened.
He doesn't remember much about that day. If anything stands out in his memory, it was a hazy memory of Shu Yi hugging him and crying his heart out. Even to this day, that memory hurts him. He never wanted, intended for Shu Yi to cry in pain because of him.
But at that time, his eyes felt heavy. He wanted to get up so badly and take Shu Yi in his arms but he felt himself getting weaker and weaker until he couldn't feel no more.
Few days later, I woke up again with Shu Yi next time me connected to an IV drip after collapsing from th shock and exhaustion. It was something I never ever want to wake up to again. Ever.
The doctors told me later on that my heart stopped briefly. And I knew in my heart that was Shu Yi's cries and desperate calls that brought me back.
When I was declared well and was allowed finally to go home, Shu Yi and I practically lived together. It was unspoken but in my heart I kmew that Shu Yi has accepted me back in his life.
We finally had a talk. About what happened in those 5 years that we've missed. And about us and the future. It was long overdue but it was something we both needed if we wanted to move forward with our lives together. We needed to set ourselves free from the pain of the past so we can fully embrace the happines of our future together.
To my surprise, Shu Yi wanted to get married right there and then. If I had a choice, I wanted to give him the kind of wedding that he deserve ut for Shu Yi, he just wanted to make sure I'm his forever (his words, not mine).
And here we are, years later. Still hapily married and with an adorable and incredbly smart 5 years old son.
"Otosan?" My son's voice broke through my thoughts and brought me back to the present. "Papa, I think Otosan is made that I kept a secret from him."
Wiggling himself out of my embrace, Seiichi tugged at Shu Yi's hands with an apologetic look on his face.
"Otosan, Seiichi is sorry. But I promised Papa not to tell you he's coming home early so he can surprise you."
Shu Yi sat down and sees our son eye to eye, before planting a soft kiss on his chubby cheek. "Otosan's not angry, baby. I was really just surprise and happy that papa is here. Thank you."
Knowing that he made his father happy, Seiichi wrapped his small around Shu Yi's neck. "Happy birthday, papa."
With the surprise look on his face, I knew Shu Yi forgot. My husband forgot his own birthday again.
I finally walked up to my family, pulling Shu Yi next to me. " I can't believe you forgor your birthday again, President Zhou. Were you planning to burry yourself with work again? I asked teasingly
"Heh! You weren't supposed to be here anyway so might as well be productive."
He had moved forward a little, his eyes moving the strands of hair away from my eyes. And just like any other time, I felt my self lost in those pair of brown orbs. My eyes them fell on his lips. Oh,how I missed kissing them. Being on a business trip is almost always a torture without them. I was just about to taste those lips when I was reminded that we now have a little one.
"Papa, where's your gift for Otosan?"
Shu Yi laughed out loud at the interruption, knowing fully well what I was planning to do.
"Ah~right. The gift."
Shu Yi tugged me down a little and finally fulfilled my wish of kissing him. It was a soft and quick peck on the lips that only made me want for more but for now, it's enough.
Resting his head on my chest as he listens to my heartbeat, his arms wrap around Seiichi as I also pulled them both in a hug, he gently whispered. "The only gifts I ever needed are right here."
The End.
