Walking, walking, and walking.
Yirra was lagging with Jakkun in front of her.
I marched on ahead, and I mean way ahead.
Jakkun ran to me, grabbing me by the shoulder.
"We should take a break," he said between breaths and gesturing to Yiira.
I looked back at her in annoyance.
"Not my fault she can't build stamina. We keep moving. Now. Night waits for no one."
I shoved him away and pushed on.
Turning around, I saw Jakkun taking Yiira's arm over his shoulder, supporting her.
Jakkun looked at me, pleading with his eyes.
"Gah! Fine! We'll rest! However, we stop once we reach that tree," I said, pointing off to a tree not so far from here.
Jakkun passed by me and punched my shoulder with a smile.
"So you do care."
"Shut up and go there now while I keep looking. That tree isn't good enough."
"If you're looking for something abandoned, I suggest going that way."
He pointed to a river with nothing but forests on the other side.
"I think an old farm is across the river, but of course, we need strength to paddle against the current, so rest with us," he continued.
I squinted at the way he was pointing.
Trees were too thick to see an old barn.
Glaring at him with disapproval, I shook my head.
"You can look there, but no wild goose chase for me," I said, running my own way to find a better place.
"You should get some rest while you can!" He yelled with hands cupped around his mouth.
Like I'd listen to him.
I returned to their resting place as the sun was setting.
"Found anything?" Jakkun said, knowing my answer.
"Nothing," I answered, humiliated and defeated.
"Shame," he chuckled, getting up, pulling Yirra up with him, and continuing, "We go with my plan."
