The Consequences of Magic

If you think magic is cool, I beg you to reconsider.

Is it powerful? Hell yeah. But not the way you'd want.
It's less like the perfect shot than it is throwing a bomb in your own home. It'll kill the bug, but you'll probably burn something of import.
A few years ago, a kid in my class disappeared. Her dad was an alchemist or something equally uptight.
He was trying to figure out the age old stop ageing thing. And he was close. Added on thirteen years before he was taken. But he had to give away thirteen years of his life.
He didn't really mind. He made sure it wasn't his birth, but after just gave it away. He lost the birth of his own child, and I don't even think he noticed.

But is magic, small magic, is it okay? Can I move things across a room with no real consequences? Well, maybe.
Some people dabble in the small stuff. Long distant chats, if done right,  will only result in a lost voice. Mostly they aren't that hard to find.
There were rumours in high school about a girl using vanishing ink to cheat on her A levels. They were only rumours, but inky words used to appear on her skin until the school started using laptops instead of paper.
You'll hear stories from all sorts about how they used magic in uni or whatnot. How they used to levitate gravel on rooftops and stick their roommates trousers to the ceiling.
But lots of people don't talk about the small trips on thin air that caused them to break a limb. No one really mentions the shoes they had to burn to remove from the ground.

People know from one look that I've used it.
I don't look like an addict, and it's not like I carry a how to book around.
I don't have to ask people why. I've thought about it, but I know they'll tell me it's because of my eyes.
My eyes are cloudy grey, and almost transparent, but I walk with my head up.
I'm a blind man without a stick or a guide because I can still technically see.
Whatever is going to happen will be shown to me first. I'll see it before anyone else does.

People will ask me if it's worth it. The answer is no.
I wanted to see everything that happens before it happened, but no one wants to see seven billion consequences.

A/N: I don't know how long ago I wrote this, but it was floating around in my notes.
Also, I know I don't post a lot, but I may start posting even less as I'm one of the head writers for a roleplay SMP.
