My name is Mr. Johanssen. I work at Long Island Medical School and the Long Island Hospital. The school gives me nothing except small paychecks and annoying headaches. Why do I stay? Because of my favorite student, Will Solace. He has golden blonde hair and a sunshine grin. One day he will grow up to be an truly AMAZING doctor. But for now, I watch him like a hawk. My second favorite student, Holly Prahm, took notice of Will too. I wanted them to get together. But, being a teacher I couldn't really be a match-maker. Plus, they look so alike that they could be siblings. But I'd give lots to be Will or Holly's fathers. I guess that-
"Mr. Johanssen?"
I jumped up in surprise and slight shock. Then I remembered. I was in a class. Dang it. I check my watch. 1:24. In about 6 minutes my favorite students will sit in Row 2 Seat 4 and Row 3 Seat 2. I quickly handed out homework, which caused visible pain from most of my students, and dismissed them. I was pretty desperate about seeing Will and Holly. After all, tomorrow was their final exam. Then after that was the last day of Long Island Medical School. I teach the human body and sometimes a bit about the brain. But enough of that. It's almost 1:30.
TIME SKIP TO 1:30 BECAUSE IDK WHAT HE DOES IN THE MINUTES
The whispers and chuckles of chattering students filled my ears. I prepared for an hour of lessons. The first to come in was Will and Holly, who were talking about something in another language. Odd. They laughed at something and took their seats. I took attendance, frowning at each unique word from the respective children. My class used to have a tradition of asking me too many questions, so I lost my temper and yelled at them to ask among themselves. So now, every day some person would call out a question and each person would respond with a word that answers the question. The question the other day had something to do with food, because each student called out something similar to 'cheeseburger!' or 'chicken nuggets!' I couldn't really take it. But Will enjoyed it, so I was content.
"Do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend?" a student asked. Some blushed, others wolf-whistled. This may be interesting. I cleared my throat and announced names.
"Jane Aswend?"
"No one!" Jane answered emotionlessly. I raced through the names of students until I read the last few names.
"Will Solace?"
Will looked up, utterly confused. Then he remembered the question. Blushing, he muttered yes. Cue the wolf-whistling. I called on Holly next. She said yes too. So they may be a couple. Ok. Next class, I'll be asking the questions.
TIME SKIP TO NEXT CLASS WITH WILL
I silenced the talking students and they settled. Before any of them could ask a question, I asked for them.
"What is your significant other's name?"
Most of my students looked a bit shocked. Some looked pleased. Others just ignored it. So I took attendance. I raced through names. Then I took my time on a certain two.
"Will Solace?"
He looked up, blushing as fierce as the reddest tomato in a farm.
"Nico."
I blinked. Nico? Italian I guess. Never heard of a Nico in this school. Hopefully Will was comfortable with her. I pretended to dismiss this like all the others.
"Holly Prahms?"
"Zack Pit." She whispered. She wasn't as red as Will, but still blushing. I couldn't help but chuckle slightly at their antics. I handed out the exams and pondered about Nico and Zack.
TIME SKIP TO GRADUATION DAY
Today was the day all my students were grown up! I could shed tears if I wasn't a teacher. Each name brang a different emotion to my heart. Will and Holly seemed so happy! Then the principal stepped up to the podium.
"Greeting parents, teachers, and siblings. Today we congratulate our students for graduating Medical School! They will each receive diplomas and the valedictorians will be crowned! Good day!" Then he turned towards the students who filed into the line like busy bees. Each received their diploma, which they rightfully earned since they all passed the final test with flying colors. Finally, the diplomas were handed out and hats were thrown. The principal stepped back up to the podium.
"And now, our valedictorian is... Will Solace!"
Will, who had a goofy grin on his face, strode up to the podium with pride glowing around him. He bowed and waited until everyone stopped cheering to make a speech.
"Thank you! I'm here today because of my mom," He waved to the crowd," my dad" He pointed up, which I assumed was a sign that he as in heaven, " and my beautiful half-sister and boyfriend! Neeks! Come up here! You too Holly!" He exploded into a smile as a pale boy with dark hair and an aviator's jacket went up stage. They hugged and kissed. Then Will turned to Holly and hugged her as well. That was certainly a shock. Will Solace, my favorite student, was gay. I actually have nothing against LGBTQ+, but it was certainly odd. Still, everyone cheered, hollered, whooped, ad clapped. I still needed to wrap my mind around the fact that he wasn't straight and that the girl I thought he should date was actually his half-sister. I didn't even know he had any distant siblings! He continued his speech, and sat down after kissing 'Neeks'.
"Congratulations students! The ceremony is now over!" the principal stated. The crowd of students and parents swarmed into one large mass. I tried to navigate through them, but I couldn't see anything too well. I felt someone push me, and I fell onto the gym floor with a thud. People quieted. Then someone helped me up.
"I'm so sorry Mr. Johanssen! I really am! Are you hurt?" A panicked Will kept asking me questions. I reassured him I was fine. He relaxed and went over to his boyfriend, who I believe was named Nico. I hoped Will isn't like a momma hen to him as he is to everyone who is his patient.
And that's how I met Solangelo.
(Trying my best! Please excuse my very hectic schedule! Bye!)
