I'm writing this while listening to a pretty sad song, so let's hope that doesn't affect anything. Hope you all like this series of Kingdom AU. If someone has a better name for it... please. Comment. I'm not the best with titles. By the way, Estelle is around Nico's age (not his technical one) because it doesn't seem the best for this story to have a princess as a toddler, does it? Enjoy!

trigger warning: death

Nico POV

The next day started with noise. Lots of it. Trumpets and a cowbell, to be specific. I startled awake, eyes shooting open. A maid hurriedly opened the curtains of my room, and as I rubbed the clingy sleep from my eyes, my father came into view.

"Hello son." He greeted. No 'Good morning' or 'How are you?'. A simple hi.

"Hello my great endearing father." I snapped back drowsily. Unfazed, the king continued his speech.

"It seems your new wife is on her way," with those words, my eyes shot open much faster than before, "Estelle Jackson was a grand choice, as her kingdom is quite wealthy with gold, silks, ivory, as well as..." Whatever father continued to say, I wasn't listening to. Instead, my mind drifted to her handsome brother, Percy. Yet again, it landed on the annoyingly bright servant, Will. With a blush, I recalled my so-called romantic action from last night. I had kissed him, yes. But didn't friends kiss friends? Didn't parents kiss their children off to schools? Didn't boys kiss boys for fun at parties? Didn't... wasn't it normal? Did that kiss mean anything?

"... and the wedding will be tomorrow, as the wedding planners from Princess Estelle's kingdom seemed prepared and eager to take on the task."

"Wait, what?" I snapped out of my reverie, discombobulated from the sudden reality of the wedding. Yes, I had chosen Estelle Jackson, but that was simply out of kindness and sympathy. I could have explained the situation to her so we could act as if dating for... I don't know, a few years? Not a single day! I fumbled with my words, but as I whipped the blanket off of my bed, my father cried out in shock.

"Son, you seem to have... scars. You cannot be seen with this!" He shouted. The maid from earlier swiftly pulled my blanket up, and I realized I recognized her. The one with honey-blonde curls and steely grey eyes. She reminded me of Will-

Will.

"Father, I have an appointment in the infirmary for three days for these scars." The words tumbled out off of my tongue, suffocating me with thankfulness of the boy's concern.

"These scars do not need three days. Simply take this day off, and the wedding will be back tomorrow. We will take measurements from your tailored suits and clothes." I was too relieved to respond, and I pranced off to the infirmary. As I peered through the door, I saw Will and waltzed in. The young boy looked up at me immediately, all of the negative emotions dissipating from his features instantly.

"N-Nico." He stuttered. Why was he so nervous?

"Hey Will." I muttered, tired and quite confused on why his face looked so tight. I looked down to check if I had pants on, and to my shock and horror, I realized why he was so embarrassed.

"Y-you seemed to have forgotten to put pants over your... sunshine boxers." Will stifled a giggle, and headed to a room nearby. He came out with some trousers.

"I got them from Percy. He has way too many pants." Will explained. I did not want to know how Will knew that, and silently put the pants on.

"Time for a quick check-up Sunshine." Will said, gesturing to the nearest bed.
