Chapter 1
Bright light flooded the room, as a maid swung open the violet drapes. I groaned quietly, as the maid tsked, at my improper etiquette. She stripped the violet thick winter covers of my barely covered body. I had on a loose lacy floral nightgown, that went down to my mid-thighs.
I sighed deeply, getting up from the warm bed, and went to the chair, that held the awaiting gown, and undergarments. The gown was simple, yet beautiful. It was a pasty green, will flowing sleeves. It had gold laced onto the edges.
My maid laced my corset, as tight as possible, before slipping my gown on and fastening it. She elegantly braided my dark brown hair with quick steady fingers. I slipped on my slippers and hastened down the eerily cold stone corridor.
I entered the dining room, with the grand chandelier. It was a warm room, with a roaring fire in the wall. I was dazed by the crackling, and the dancing colors the memory coming back to me. I shook my head and sat down on the right of the head of the table. My father wasn't there yet.
My father and I... we weren't very close. He stole me away from my home, and who expects me to love him? He abandonded me and my mother when she was only pregnant. And he took away my love. We didn't bond, because he was too busy being King.
He walked in and nodded at me in acknowledgement. He sat at the head of the table. A few servants came in with bowls of oatmeal, smothered in cream and strawberries. I dived into the food, careful to keep my ettiquette; keeping my elbows of the table, sitting up straight, and so on.
He glanced at me quickly, and nodded in approval. He wasn't the best father on earth, obviously, but he wasn't the worst. He had the same dark brown hair as me, and a small beard. He had dark blue small eyes, surrounding by smile lines, but also had wrinkles in his forehead from frowning. He had paler skin, but not as pale as mine, of course.
He ate his breakfast quietly, taking his time leisurely. I finished quickly and waited, with my stomach churning for him to finish, to tell me of my betrothed. I still felt as if I was betraying my Johnathan, but he's most likely moved on with that blond girl, Ava. She was very beautiful, and always had an eye on Johnathan; he was the most handsome boy to be seen. She was kind to me, but I could see jealousy in her wide, supposedly innocent blue eyes. I always adored blue eyes, wishing I had them as well- most likely because of Johnathan. But, I did like my forest green eyes. They didn't show my feelings like blue eyes do.
My father finally finished and nodded at me and got up. My thin lips gaped at his back as he turned around, and I quickly recomposed myself, not wanting a scolding and he spoke,
"Oh, I nearly forgot! You're betrothed will be arriving this evening, instead of next." He turned on his heel and a servant opened the heavy oak door, and Father walked out with a confident stride. I slumped down in my wooden chair, thankful to be out of his watchful presence.
That's quite a surprise... And a bit rude. Maybe my betrothed isn't very proper and uptight? For heaven's sake, I don't even know my betrothed's name! I do hope he's handsome, and young. I heard that a sixteen year old was wed to a man of forty years!
With a sigh, I stood up. My feet made echoing taps on the cold stone floor. I nearly ran out the eerie corridor to get to the lovely garden.
It's proven to be one of the most beautiful springs yet; the weather has been nearly perfect. The garden amazed me every single moment, a surprise in every nook and cranny.
It had cobble stone pathways, leading through the garden. The pathways were surrounded by dozens of colorful blooming flowers. The grass was a shocking green, with a thin stream weaving through, to the pond at the end. I desperately wanted to swim in it, but I had a slight feeling I wouldn't be allowed. Maybe I could sneak in later in the summer...
My favorite part of the wonderful garden was the roses. There was a white lattice fence, with white roses weaving up it, wth the cobblestone pathway snaking underneath it. It led to bushes and roses climbing up lattice stands. Gorgeous blooming bloody red roses surrounded me, and I closed my eyes, letting the morning sun cast light on my unprotected pale skin as I inhaled the beautiful scent of the roses surrounding me.
I sat down on the steel seat, with a beautiful fancy design in the back of the chair, but it made it quite uncomfortable. My eyes remained closed and I drifted, letting my thoughts wander, with no barricades into certain parts of mind...

A few gruff mens voices awoke me from my nap, and I awoke to the dancing colors of the sky as the sun began to set. The ends of my lips pulled up into a small smile, but then I realized... My betrothed must be arriving soon or is already is here! I gasped, feeling the blood leave my face.
I jumped to my feet hastily, making pitter-patter against the sun-warmed stones. I thrust open the heavy wooden door, and rushed to my room in a haze, trying desperately to remember where the room was!
I sighed in relief as I reached my familiar room, and ran to my wardrobe. I pulled out the midnight blue gown, with silver laced upon the edges. The sleeves went mid-arm, then flowed out. It had to be my favorite gown yet.
Quickly with clumsy fingers, I attempted to undo the back of my day dress, to put on my gown. After ten minutes of fumbling, I threw off my dress with disgust. I've wasted so much time!
I stood in front of my mirror, which showed me from head to toe. I had on my corset, laced tightly, and my slippers. Looking at my surroundings in the mirror, I noticed the door ajar, and a handsome man looking through it...
