Part 5~
Rain sluiced over your jacket, driving into your open points in your clothes. Cold crept up along your spine as the wind whipped the hair about your eyes and tugged at you relentlessly. You stumbled again and felt the rocky road beneath your feet slip away.
"Y/N!!!" Hands grabbed your jacket as the world spun beneath you. Adrenaline had you gripping your savers arms. The black and cloudy night split as a bolt of lighting surged above. A clap of thunder followed it louder then any thunder you had heard in your time.
"Watch your step lassie, we don't want to loose you over the mountainside." Dori said, patting your shoulders as he pulled you back onto the misty mountains path.
"Thanks Dori ..." You gasped. Ever since leaving Rivendell and Gandalf behind, you had been feeling oddly anxious. Moving on without the wizard had your heart in a tantrum in your chest. You couldn't help but worry that - if he didn't join up soon- something bad would happen to you and your little friends. After traveling with the group for months, you had felt like you had made a miniature family. A home away from your so very distant home. These dwarves had wormed their way into your heart.
Suddenly their was another cry as bilbo, the sure footed hobbit, lost his balance in the rainy and narrow path. Dwalins hand shot forward, snatching the small hobbit back onto the path. It was hard, even for the dwarves,on this treacherous pass to keep your feet. And the water and storm were not helping. You being a big clumsy human had put you at a disadvantage. Your sneakers slid over the stone so many times it felt as if you were dancing with death himself.
"WE MUST FIND SHELTER !" Thorin called from the head of the group. You and the company had all been walking for an hour and had hardly made any progress. The storm cracked above again, thunder rumbling.
"LOOK OUT !" Dwalin roared.
You swung your head about, eyes searching for the sudden distress. Holy. Mother of. God. A boulder, easily the size of an suv back in your world, flew through the air from the opposite direction of the mountain. You pressed yourself tightly to the stone as the Boulder smashed into the side of the mountain. It shook the rock beneath you and the whole company cried out as the stones fell upon them. You grunted in pain as one clipped your shoulder heavily.
"This is no thunderstorm !" Balin called from behind. You turned your eyes to him confused. What did he mean ? This was a thunderstorm.
"Balin- what else could be causing this rain and -" you stopped as he shouted, pointing behind you. The words were lost in the cracking of the wind as you turned back. Something was moving out in the misty planes, the great mass towering above you and the company.
"WHAT IS THAT ?! IS IT THE DRAGON?!" You cried. Dori shook his head, face grim.
"No y/n, this is no dragon. These creatures are older then the dragon." You blinked through the mist and gasped as the creature came into view. It was a mountain- a mountain of rock and stone standing on its own."LOOK!" Balin called again and you saw that the creature was tearing at its side of the mountain, raising another boulder.
"Bless me - GIANTS ! REAL STONE GIANTS !" Bofur called. You blinked, mouth agape as the beast before you chucked the boulder into the mountainside. You flinched as the great stones fell again, slicing and cutting like rain - but the stones never fell. Instead the great Boulder rammed into yet another stone giant.
"WHAT ON EARTH-" you called as the two beasts turned to one another. It seemed that they were about to due battle. And you and your little family were caught right smack dab in the middle.
"TAKE COVER !"
"HOLD ON !"Different shouts could be heard about the company as the mountainside creaked and cracked. You were pressed against the side of the mountain by Balin and Bombur as the path beneath you began to crumble away. You scrambled for a purchase for your feet, hitting nothing but empty air as your hands snatched at stone.
