Feel something.

"Please don't talk, I just need you." You pull away from Dean as he closed the door as fast as he opened it when he came in. He had tried for the small talk but that wasn't what you wanted right then, so next thing he knew was following you up the stairs to your bedroom.

45 minutes later you lay back on your side of the bed, sucking in what air you could. Dean pulled the sheets up over his chest as you grabbed them to cover yourself as well. You couldn't believe your luck when he called and said he was in town heading to a hunt in Kentucky, you told him what you wanted and next thing you know he is dropping Sam at the hotel and pulling into your driveway five minutes later.

"Where did that even come from?" He hadn't seen you in months, it had been two weeks since he had even talked to you in friendly conversation.
"I needed to get some stuff off my chest Dean. Please don't act like you didn't enjoy it too." Dean laughs at your comment as he goes to pull you in, "You know I never mind sweetheart." As he tried to wrap his arm around you to pull you in, you shift away from him not wanting that type of touch. You only needed to feel his weight on you, his lips to your skin and the need for you that only a mind with one track could have. What you didn't need was him trying to hold you or do any type of pillow talk. God forbid cuddling.

He noticed this. Despite what some people might think of Dean when they see his play boy personality and his ability to play dumb, Dean was smart and damn near smart enough to notice everything wrong with you when he entered that doorway. Soon as he seen your face he knew there was more to this than just a booty call. He would admit proudly that the sex was good, if you two never did anything right but one thing it would definitely be the sex part but this wasn't just about that it was something a lot more.
The way your eyes were bloodshot and you could never keep eye contact with him for more than a few seconds. How the purple circles under your eyes were worse than he had ever seen them and the fact he could see them, normally you would never let him near you without at least a coat of makeup on but tonight you were bare to him in more ways than just one.
He could feel it in your body while you were together, the way there was no emotion to it besides lust. Normally there would be laughing or name calling at each other while switching positions but this time you were as empty as the wine bottle that was sitting by the couch down stairs as you led him up to your room. What was the final straw was when he tried to wrap his arm around you, it was something you did all the time when you used to do this close to a year ago, yet this time you brushed that away like your hair that came to your shoulders.

He watched you reach over to the side of the bed and pull out a cigarette from its package. As you sparked the flame that your lungs would soon inhale, he watched your eyes dance in the flame and all too soon like so much before in your life, the flame went out and all that was left was smoke that filled your body and for a moment told you it was okay. It wasn't though, he knew you quit smoking over a year ago, he knew this because he quit when you did and to see you giving back in to a demon from you past meant your soul was broken more than he could hear on the phone, see in your eyes or feel in your body.
A part of him broke for you.

He reached over you and grabbed one of the cowboy reds as you let out another puff of grey smoke from yours. He reached down beside the bed and pulled out his zippo lighter from his regarded jeans, lighting a flame to what was once his old friend and now his worst enemy.
"I thought you had quit smoking Dean?"
He laughed, holding the cigarette between his lips as he tossed the lighter back on his jeans. This was the only thing you two could have in common right now besides knowing what the other liked in bed.
"Funny, I could ask you the same thing couldn't I?"
He nudged you lightly but no laugh escaped from your lips, just the grey train of smoke.
"I had. But this week has been a bitch, I figured I deserved this."
Dean wasn't much of a pillow talker, he didn't like talking about feelings in general but he couldn't stand to see you like this so he asked what he didn't want to.

"Will you tell me what is wrong? Please?"
You blinked unsurprised by the question as you knew it had to be coming at some point with how you had been acting.
You answered him as honest as you could.
"I was with someone, for a year actually. He came at a time I thought I didn't want him but he made me realize I couldn't want anything more than him. We were happy together and most importantly we were good together and I thought that was enough but apparently it wasn't. We had fights before and he would leave but this time was real, this time he decided it and it wasn't me anymore. I made a fool of myself Dean, I begged him to stay with me I cried and begged him not to leave and you know what? He did it anyways. It didn't matter what I tried to do or say he just... left. It was my fault because he told me himself that I didn't give him enough or do enough for him that I wasn't with him and his family enough or that I worked too much and I agreed. He needed someone that could give him what he needed in his life and that wasn't me."

By this time both of your cigarettes were at their end and your tears started running down your face in a mocking way of showing just how badly this hurt you. Dean knew you had been with someone for a while, honestly that wasn't on his mind when you called him and told him that you needed him the way only you two knew how to handle. He knew you were a loyal person to anyone you loved so he knew you wouldn't use him to cheat with anyone but the fact you had been with someone didn't resurface until just now that you were telling him he was gone. He knew you were at times a hard one to love, you had a lot of fight in you, you were independent and for some that was terrifying. He also knew though that you had a lot of love to give and you had a heart big enough for anything that was thrown at it, so to see you hurt as badly as you did and cry as hard as you were while throwing the buds into the ashtray... it killed him.
"Did he say why?" That wasn't a question you wanted to have to answer but you did anyways. "Like I said, he said it was too much and that he was mentally exhausted of it all... that he wanted more than I had to give him anymore."
Dean grit his teeth as silently as he could. "What was so exhausting about you to him?" This made you roll your eyes and almost want to laugh.
"What wouldn't be, look at who I am and what I do? No one would want this." Dean sat back some in the bed that now seemed to have a chill in it. He knew you had a lot on your plate, you owned and operated your own farm out here in rocky top Tennessee. You were just one girl that did the jobs of many. You worked your ass off from sun up to sun down and then some. He had met you when rolling through on a wendigo hunt. The thing had set up shop in a cave system that ran just under your property so you let him and Sammy camp out at the farm for a week while trying to kill that thing. In that time you two spent a lot of nights talking and other nights more than that... when the hunt was finally over you both made a deal if he was ever in town or you were ever in his area to get together and do just what you two do best. Funny thing was Dean found a whole lot of hunts that required them to pass through your small town, at least one a month and sometimes two if he was lucky. The year you finally did find something serious you told him and he understood. You both knew that you couldn't have a real relationship together which was why there was never any strings attached in the end, but Dean still knew he also loved you more than he had any other women he had ever had these arrangements with and knew you like the back of his palm for all the time you had spent together.
"I just wanted to be enough Dean... why wasn't I enough?" He didn't know how to answer that because he didn't know why you weren't enough for anyone that had brains enough to see that.
You stood from the bed while he was lost in thought, finding your panties and bra that got lost in in the heat that earlier had consumed every thought process Dean had.
He also in this time grabbed his boxers from his pile of clothes that was on the floor. While slipping them back on and getting adjusted he glanced over to you and sees the cut and bruise on your leg. "Son of a bitch." You spin around still holding your shirt in your hands. "What?" He takes two long steps before being in front of you. "Did he do that?" You look down to the bruising and the cut then laugh. "Oh God no he never would have even thought of doing something like that." Dean felt a little relief come over him but you continued, "I guess I just don't really worry about myself anymore... he told me to promise him not to do anything stupid and get myself hurt and well the next day I had a little slip unloading hay and here we go."
He knew getting hurt for you was an everyday thing but it still didn't sit right with him.
"He said he was tired of feeling like all he did was work, you know to help me out here he said that was all it felt like he did. He said he didn't want to feel like for the rest of his life he would have to come home just to work or help. That it wasn't fair to him."
You started to cry again, it wasn't something you could help at this point. You walked over to your nightstand and grabbed a necklace from it, "He left his stupid necklace... told me to keep it to remember him and that it was his favorite thing and I needed it. Well I don't want it!" You screamed the last part as you threw the simple black necklace with a duck call on the end against the wall of your room.
Dean walked to you before you could find anything else to throw and grabbed you tightly pulling you into his chest. You tried to push him off you and told him to let you go but he didn't.
He just held you while you rode it out, until finally you hugged to his body crying again. He really didn't know what to do, he just wanted your pain to stop but he didn't know how to help you stop it. So he did the only thing he could think of that you wanted or that you needed.
He pulled you back from him and kissed you trying to put whatever words he could tell you into that one act. You didn't try to push this feeling away, instead you welcomed it because your mind was too lost and too empty for your body to feel the same way. You just wanted to feel something and he knew he could at least give you that.

After round two was over, and the sheets were untangled and the sweat dried you made yourself comfortable for the night.
You finally fell asleep with Dean by your side, he held you when you wanted him to and let you be when you wanted him to. You went in and out of sleep in fits. You let a few more tears fall and told him only little parts of why the girl he once knew was a shell. At one point while you were almost asleep he heard you say to him. "Dean, if there was a way I could leave here without hurting everyone I loved... I would and never look back... but I couldn't imagine someone else feeling as empty if not more than I do right now and it be my fault." Dean didn't say anything to that because within minutes later you were asleep once again.
He waited till you were deep asleep before putting his jeans and shirt back on, slipping on his untied boots and walking to the stairs. It was probably the best sleep you had in days. He would be back in the morning before you woke up, Sam could handle one case without him. He needed to be here and get you back on your feet, he owed you that much. As he went to start down the stairs he seen that necklace in what light was coming in from the moon.
Slowly picking it up he looked at it, maybe he could burn it... get Sammy to find a curse to put on the owner... but then he finally thought of one better.

He had remembered you one time talking about a place where all the people around your age would hang out. In the parking lot of a local diner there in town and he had a pretty good feeling of who would be there.
When he pulled in with the impala all the young little boy's heads turned and admired it... he knew that was the difference in their baby toys and a big boy's toy.
Dean stepped out, he had seen a picture that you had posted of you and you ex so he knew who he was looking for and he seen just that person standing in a group of guys.
He walked slowly over to them but was greeted by one of the other boys. "I don't think we know exactly who you are, if you would like to let us know just who the hell you think you are then-" Dean cut him off with a punch to the jaw making him hit the ground, then staggering to his shit box of a truck. A lot of the boys went on their way once that happened knowing he was not a force to be reckoned with. He walked up to the guy that made you cry, that left you broken, that left you as empty as that bottle of whiskey that was sitting in his floorboard. He wanted to hit him, no he wanted to kill him and he knew that he could... but he wouldn't let him get off that easy.
"I think this is yours." He slammed the necklace into his chest. The boy grabbed it and held it as it took a moment for him to register how he got it. "She told me she didn't want it and I'm pretty sure she told you... so I'm giving it back to you and letting you know she doesn't need it. She's got mine now anyways."
Dean mentally thought of his necklace that Sammy gave him for Christmas sitting on your nightstand waiting for you to wake up in the morning and put it on now to slowly replace the memory of what this asshole left.
Without another word Dean left. He spun tires out of the parking lot as he drove back to the hotel to get his things and tell Sammy what was going on and why he wasn't going.

Authors note: This short one shot really reflects a lot on my life right now. Even though my knight in shining armor isn't true. The words still stand to the fact no matter how hard things get, they can get better. Even if it doesn't feel like it anymore.
