Reaping day

Reaping day

I repeated those two words over and over in my mind...those two words...today was the day that was dreaded by everyone, even me, the well known "slayer" of district 4. I quickly put on a light mint coloured dress, tying my hair in a high ponytail and rushed outside. Once I was outside my eye caught Mitch's eye, and he came over to greet me.

"How are you doing?" He whispered, I looked him right in the eye, and replied with more anger than I thought would come out, "what do you think? Today we are about to chose a girl and a boy to practically be trained to killed or be killed! Yeah Mitch, of course I fell GREAT on reaping day!" I emphasized and the GREAT part. He looked away from me, a look in his eyes that I could barely see...what was that? Was it hurt, pain? No, I shook my head, it couldn't be that, could it?

No.

I quickly ignored it and went back to concentrating on what would happen in a few minutes.

~30 minutes later~

I was in the 18 aged girl group, I had butterfly's in my stomach, so much that it made me nauseous. My heart thumped fastly, and I counted every second, until Cassiana, the person that draws the names and encourage us dying, spoke up.

"Attention, Attention!" She spoke with her squeaky voice, and I winced just at the sound of it. "Welcome ladies and gentlemen for the reaping of the 80th hunger games!" I took in a deep breath, here we go, people looked at me like I was crazy, like they're thinking, 'Hey look! It's the "slayer" of our district! She's probably just going to volounteer or something! Oh wait! Does she look scared? Nah, I'm hallousonating!' "Of course, ladies first!" Cassianas voice boomed over the crowd, cutting of my thoughts. She put her hand in the round glass bowl, slowly and finally grabbed one out.

"The female tribute is...." And she unraveled the slip of paper....

"Jade dele rosa!"

Everybody turned around to see a young girl. She looked about 13 years old. As she walked up to the stage, she held a strong face, and held her head high. Right beside her in the 15 year old group, a young boy seemed to be holding in tears. Her brother I'm guessing. I couldn't take it anymore. Deep inside, everybody knew this girl was going to die. I quickly raised my hand and yelled two words I never thought I would say.

"I volunteer!"
