Alix smiles again and nods, glancing my way with a superior grin. I press my lips together and glare at her before turning back to the lady as she speaks again.

"Both of you show great promise, and finished faster than the average new students. You both demonstrated skills that are necessary to excel here, but you will still need to work hard if you want to graduate." I hear Alix give a quiet snort, and I have to stop myself from doing the same. I just passed this course with flying colors, I'll do just fine. Alix suddenly puts her hands to her head and gives it a shaky jerk, her cocky smile now gone. She keeps shaking her head, her hands pressed to her temples.

   "Alix," the lady says.

"Shut UP" Alix screams, and despite myself, I smirk. There is something wrong with this girl, and a messed up assassin isn't a good one. The lady looks taken aback, and angry.

"Excuse me" she says, annoyance hiding in her voice. That's another thing I'm good at, reading people and finding hidden emotions. I pull out my knife and fleck off some of my old black nail polish as Alix calms herself down, still smirking. Alix pulls her hood up and says in a mock, apologetic tone.

"Sorry. It's just these voices in my head. Sometimes they get a little..." she hesitates as if searching for the right word

"Loud." she smiles coldly. The lady looks a little frightened, but I just roll my eyes. Drama queen much. Although I can't blame the lady for being a bit worried. When Alix has her hood up like that, you can only see her lips, which are either twisted into a sneer or in a cold grin that reveals her teeth in a menacing way.

The lady shakes herself a bit, almost like a shiver, then motions to the door on the other side of the room.

"Let's get you girls to your dorms, and lunch will be in an hour. From now till then you can just unpack your stuff and get settled in with your roommate." Alix lets out a small groan, but follows us out of the room. Once we're in the halls, I fall into step next to Alix, not wanting to have her behind me. She doesn't seem like a rule follower. We walk on opposite sides of the halls, following the lady. I take the time to look around. Sun shines through the huge glass windows, and beyond them is a huge rolling forest in the north, and in the east is some sort of fighting circle. Older students walk through the halls as well, not even trying to hide their open stares at us. Probably sizing us up. I twirl my knife some more, looking straight ahead.

Finally The lady stops at the entrance of a hallway.

"Down here are the girls dorms. You each should know your dorm number, and each of you has one roommate. I suggest you try to stay on good terms with them." As soon as she moves out of the way, Alix walks past us both and goes briskly right to her dorm, going right in without another word. I sigh and follow after her, calling a thanks to the lady.

Thankfully Alix and I are on complete different ends of the dorm hall. I walk in to see a decent sized room with two bunks, one by the window and one by what I'm assuming is the bathroom door. I see my stuff on the bunk by the window, and smile. Hadeon must have remembered that I like to be by the windows. It makes me feel safer, like I have an easy escape. The other bunk is already kinda messy, with a few clothes scattered around and a musicport resting on the pillow.

I spend the next 15 minutes getting my clothes into the dresser next to my bed and plugging in my own musicport to charge it, and then flopping down on my bunk, face down. My arms are a bit sore, and I'm tired. I wince as my knife holster digs into my hip, and pull it off, dropping it on my backpack. I flop back down again, this time on my back and look at the ceiling, my mind floating off to a daydream.

Suddenly the door opens and I fly up, my hand going immediately to my knife. I relax when I see the girl at the door, most likely my roommate. She's slightly shorter than me with short red hair and vibrant blue eyes. Her eyes widen a bit when she notices how tense I am.

"I'm Ember, your roommate I guess" She smiles a bit and closes the door, walking over to her bunk. I give her a smile.

" I'm Loreley" I say simply, and a look comes over her pale face.

"Loreley Anluan?" she asks. I sigh and nod.

"Yeah, the one and only." I say sarcastically. She looks a bit confused before it seems to dawn on her.

"I take it fame isn't for you?" I nod at her observation.

"It doesn't bother me, but I'd rather be recognized for my accomplishments rather than my parents' accomplishments." She nods like she gets it, but I doubt she does. WE both lay back in our bunks, and I unplug my Musicport and turn it on, not even caring what song came on. I push my earbuds in and close my eyes, letting myself be vulnerable for a bit.

Suddenly the door swings open and slams shut, and I bolt up to see Alix, red faced and angry looking. She sees us looking at her and just says "shut up"

"Uh Loreley, do you know who this is" Alix rolls her eyes before plopping down next to me. She screams into her hands and I flinch a bit. Ember looks between me and Alix, confusion written all over her face.

"Uh, yeah. Ember this is Alix. But I'm not sure what she's doing here. Alix?" I cross my arms, "Care to explain."

She sighs. "Nope. Just give me a minute." She calms herself down a bit before pulling her head out of her hands.

"I hate people. My roommate is one of those girly girls who is only concerned about her boyfriend and hair and crap." Her accent is still thick as ever. She takes off her headphones, pressing pause on her MusicPort.

"Having anger problems and schizo doesn't help either." I look at her, confused.

"Yeah you saw them both earlier at the obstacle course. That's what the voices were."

Realization spreads through me as I remember her shouting after the obstacle course.

"So, yeah. Call me a freak, do what you want. I just had to get away from that bitch." she puts her headphones back on and starts the music. Ember and I exchange glances.

Then Ember says, "Um, I can switch dorms with you? If you want." She pulls off her headphones again.

   "What?"

I can't help but smile. Ember sighs and repeats the question. Alix immediately says "Yes." Ember nods and starts packing up her stuff.

"I've known Alexis for a little bit so I can handle her." Ember says. Alix doesn't hesitate in running out to go get her stuff. She comes back in as Ember leaves, and I can't say I'm happy with the new arrangement, but at least now Alix won't end up murdering Alexis.

Alix quickly stashes her clothes in the dresser messily, and then pulls off her long coat and throws it onto the top bunk. She's wearing all black, a long sleeve shirt with ripped jeans and black lace ups. I glance down at my own clothes, A thin blue flannel that sleeves only go down to my elbows with a black tank top under and black leggings. My black combat boots are sitting on the floor by my bed.

Alix pushes her headphones in again and lays down on her bed, hair over her face. I run my hand through mine again before doing the same, smiling to myself when one of my favorite songs comes on. We lay there in silence, tolerating one another for the time being.
