Even More Drama

We lay there in silence until lunch time, when Ember comes in to get us up. Her face is a bit red and she tells us about Alexis's rants. I space out a bit as we follow the flow of students to the mess hall. Boys and girls alike file in and take seats around the round tables that are scattered all through the room.

Alix quickly gets her food and sits in the corner. I don't follow her, assuming she wants to be alone. Ember leads me over to a table with a few other girls she knows. I ignore the conversation as it switches to something random, just thinking over all the stuff that's going to happen in the next year.

At one point, I glance over at Alix to see a boy sitting across from her, and her shoulder hunched and stiff in a way I'm assuming isn't good. He says something, but i can't tell if she replies. I can read her posture like a book and tap Ember's shoulder, gesturing to Alix. Her eyes immediately darken as she looks over the situation.

"Lets just watch it to make sure it stays under control. If it goes south then we can go over" I nod and eat another bite, my eyes never leaving the table in the corner. The boy says something, and Alix's head snaps up a bit. She must have said something to fluster him as he seems to stumble over his next words, and when he stops speaking, Alix looks like a spring pressed all the way down.

And then Alix is over the table, and pinning the boy to the ground with a knife to his neck. I jump up and pull Ember with me, rushing between tables to get there before she kills him or whatever she's planning on doing. God damn it Alix can you just get along with someone for once. I flinch a bit as she presses the knife harder against him, and draws a bit of blood. I start full out sprinting towards them.

"Alix I swear you better have a damn good reason for this" I mumble. Ember and I come up on Alix's left, and I basically shout at her.

   "ALIX STOP NOW"

"Why. Why should I." She says with a deadly calm.

"WHY?" I ask incredulously. "Because if you kill him, you're expelled. Out of this school. Gone. A scholarship wasted. Do you WANT to get kicked out?"

"I know what expelled means," She mumbles, "But fine. I'm not leaving him without a scar though." She makes a quick clean cut before anyone can stop her, right across his cheek. She gets off the boy and slips her knife back into her sleeve. I clench my fists to keep from screaming at her.

Alix pulls her hood up again and walks back to her food, starting to eat silently, watching as a group of girls forms around the boy, murmuring. I can't help but roll my eyes as he milks his cut for all its worth, until the nurse comes and shoos them away so she can clean him up. As she walks him past Alix, he says.

"Hey I didn't catch your name!" and Alix breaks. She lets out a yell and in a flash her knife is out again and spiraling towards him, but her aim is off and it hits the wall behind him. Everyone turns to look at her in horror, and I drop my head into my hands, groaning. Then she whispers.

"The name's Bond, James Bond" and walks out of the room, pulling her knife from the wall and dropping it into her boot on her way out. I groan again and walk back to the table, Ember following me. We sit back down, ignoring the stares from the other girls.

"Well that was...." Ember doesn't even seem sure how to finish the sentence.

"Agrivating, infiriating, incredibly stupid, over dramatic." I spit sarcastically, fed up with Alix for the 10th time today. Ember doesn't seem surprised at my anger, and sighs.

"Just calm down and eat. Besides, if Alix gets kicked out, it's no skin off our noses. I honestly don't know why you care" My brain screeches to a halt. Why DO I care so much? She's mean, and selfish and rude and cold, not to mention likes to attack people for little reasons and has some serious anger issues. I just shake my head and eat, trying to block it all from my mind.

After lunch I march right back to our room, and throw the door open, planting my hands on my hips and glaring at Alix.

"What the hell were you thinking Alix?!" she shrugs.

"He was being annoying. If he's smart he won't try to flirt with me anymore." she rolls over, and turns her music up, letting it spill out of her earbuds. I sigh, and Ember stifles a chuckle. I throw a glare her way, and she holds her hands up in mock surrender.

"Ok, i'm gonna go now. Let you two figure this out on your own. Just don't kill each other." She spins around and walks out.

"I can't make any promises" I mumble before sitting on my own bunk. Classes don't start until tomorrow, but we have an assembly to go to at 2:00. One hour. I run my hand over my face, then sigh again.

"You know I'm starting to think you need a reminder on how to breathe properly," Alix says, her back still to me.

"You know I'm starting to think you need a reminder that you can't pull a knife on everyone who aggravates you." I snap back. She shrugs.

"I'm going to take a shower" I announce, and grab my stuff before walking into our shared bathroom.

It's a decent sized bathroom. A dark marble sink with a sleek metal faucet sits in the middle of the marble counter. The shower is one of those that also has a bathtub at the bottom. I turn the water all the way hot and let the bathtub fill, putting my stuff on the shelf and in the cupboard under the sink. The whole wall behind the sink is pure mirror, and the opposite wall behind the toilet is covered in wallpaper with a dark, swirling pattern.

Once the tub is full, I peel off my clothes and climb in, the scalding hot water burning my skin. I ignore the pain and sink down up to my chin, letting the hot water burn all the past few hours away.

20 minutes later, I let the water drain and wrap one of the soft towels around myself. When I walk out, Alix is gone, her knives resting on her dresser with a rag next to them. I just hope she's behaving, and get dressed, pulling on a soft green t-shirt and some black ripped jeans. I sit on my bed and dry my hair a bit before braiding it into 2 french braids.

Grabbing my backpack, I go over to my dresser and pull out all of my assorted weapons. 2 small black pistols, the newest models, my set of obsidian throwing knives I got for my 14th birthday, and another set of knives, these ones longer and slim. A few boxes of ammo are left at the bottom, and my other holsters are in the front pocket. I pull out my favorite one, a thick band that wraps around my middle and can go under a loose shirt. It holds both pistols in the back part, and along the sides I can sheath 4 of my throwing knives.

I put it on and load it up, then slide one of the longer knives into one of the holes in my pants. Hidden on the inside is a small sheath, just for these knives. I add one more throwing knife in my boot, then go look at myself in the tall mirror on the back of the bathroom door. The oversized green shirt hides the pistols and knives, and the skinny handle on the long knife can barely be seen. I feel dangerous again.
