Chapter 16: Aftermath

Slowly opening my eyes I blinked before closing them after a bright light blinded me. 

Hearing shouting I opened them again and saw Rengoku holding me in his arms before smiling.

Me: at least he's alive

Rengoku ran towards the butterfly estate as he held me in his arms tighter. 

I groaned in pain as blood poured out of my stomach. 

Whimpering I looked up and saw Rengoku's face full of worry and pain.

Gasping as my lungs burned and my throat filled with blood I turned spitting out blood. 

My eyes slowly started to close catching Rengoku's attention.

Rengoku: Zoe stay with me ok don't close your eyes!

I panted trying to steady my breathing and close the wounds a little.

Before pain shot up my chest. I screamed alerting Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke who ran along side him. 

Stopping at the large door of the Butterfly Estate he slammed through the doors.

This alerted Shinobu and the others. She went to speak before freezing at the sight in front of her.

No-ones pov

Sumi, Kiyo and Naho screamed in fright. As Aoi held her face with shaking hands as she stared at my limp frame. 

Blood slowly dripped down from my wound and onto the gravel. Rengoku panted and shouted.

Rengoku: SHINOBU PLEASE HELP HER!

Snapping out of her shocked state she ran towards us. She checked my pulse and felt how weak it was.

Seeing my eyes slowly starting to dull she instructed Rengoku to go inside. 

Running inside he laid me down on the bed. Soon Shinobu walked up to us with medical supplies.

She raised her hands towards the piece of bone sticking out of my chest. This needed to be fixed back into place.

Shinobu: Rengoku-san hold her down

Feeling his hands on my shoulder and pushing me down gently but firmly.

I groaned and before I could respond I felt Shinobu's hands on my chest. And with that Shinobu snapped my bone back into place and I froze.

Me: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Pain.......unbearable white hot searing pain was all I felt. I struggled against Rengoku as it attacked every nerve in my body. 

I started to sob while Shinobu cleaned and stitched the wound. All the while flinching when I screamed.

Before feeling a wave of sudden exhaustion hit I looked up. 

Staring into Rengoku's eyes I weakly smiled .

Me: R Rengoku

Rengoku: shh save your strength 

Me: I I l like y you a a lot

He looked at me with shock and I weakly smiled at his blushing and slightly bloody face. 

Before my eyes rolled back to my head and all went black.

All of them: ZOE?!

Timeskip

Waking up I groaned as my chest ached with a dull pain. 

Looking around I froze seeing Rengoku sleeping in a chair near the bed holding my hand.

I blushed and went to speak before a coughing fit took over me. 

Making the pain worse causing me to whimper silently.

That must of gotten his attention as Rengoku's eyes snapped open.

He immediately helped me up and patted my back while calling for Shinobu. 

Clearing I throat I sighed and looked at him seeing his face full of worry and regret. 

Frowning I gently patted him cheek. Before I could speak he did something I only dreamed about.

He kissed me.......

Pulling away we both panted while blushing heavily. We stared at each-other not saying a word before I broke the silence.

Me: w what?

He weakly chuckled  and kissed my forehead.

Rengoku: I like you too Zoe!

Blushing more now I cleared my throat and went to speak before the door burst open. 

Turning I saw the trio standing there with tears streaming down their faces.

Before they lunged for me.

The trio: ZOE-SAN YOUR ALIVE?!

After the boys barged in the door me and Rengoku kinder looked at each other flustered while trying to explain our blushes.

Rengoku: I thought you looked cute with a blush

"blushes" RENGOKU!? YOU BAKA!
