The sun rose higher above the horizon, brightly shining on the crew. Everyone's wounds had been attended to, and Beomgyu was still seated on the deck. He was still trying to pry the box open, picking at it with one of his knives.
He sawed at what appeared to be the heavy metal chain, but it wasn't going to cut through. Beomgyu sighed in defeat, slumping his shoulders. The lock was too intricate for him to pick it.
Yeonjun was seated on a crate, looking into the open ocean that was now sparkling with the sunlight hitting it. Taehyun walked over to join the other, sitting down next to him and resting his hands in his lap.
"So," Taehyun began, "How's your ankle doing?"
Yeonjun scoffed, turning his foot slightly. "Better than before, but it still kinda hurts."
Taehyun hummed in response, resting his head on Yeonjun's shoulder. He yawned, squinting in the bright sunlight which shone towards them. He stretched, resting his hand so it brushed against Yeonjun's.
"What'd you think is in that box?" Taehyun asked jokingly, the two watching as Beomgyu fiddled with the lock more. He had been trying different methods for the past few hours, none of them working.
"Something valuable I bet," Yeonjun guessed, putting a hand to his chin. "If its that important and needs a fancy lock on it."
Taehyun shrugged. "It could be something really disappointing, too."
"Like what?"
"An empty box."
Yeonjun laughed, punching the other playfully. Taehyun snickered, shoving Yeonjun back too.
"Maybe it's something small, like some money?"
Taehyun raised an eyebrow.
"Who the heck would want to bury money on an island? Let alone a random island no one's been to before?"
Yeonjun shrugged. "You never know, it literally could be anything at this point. I'm guessing it might be something worth a lot since it's locked up so tightly..."
"I mean, we could sell it off for a large price and claim there's treasure inside," Taehyun suggested. "Or we could find a locksmith who could crack it open for us."
"I don't think a locksmith could get it open if even Beomgyu couldn't," Yeonjun mumbled, resting his chin in his hands. Taehyun snickered, rolling his eyes.
The two stayed silent for awhile, enjoying themselves in the sea breeze. Yeonjun looked in the direction as Magic Island slowly drifted further from them.
"You know, I honestly didn't think I was going to make it this far with you," Yeonjun admitted quietly, looking at the ground. Taehyun hummed in response, slightly swinging his feet.
"Well, I'm glad you're still here with us," Taehyun answered with a smile. Yeonjun laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head.
"I mean yeah— I probably still wouldn't even be in one piece if you hadn't saved me all those times," Yeonjun mumbled, tensing his shoulders. Taehyun smiled happily, tilting his head to get a better look at the other.
"Don't be so harsh on yourself, you never know when we're gonna run into another giant octopus," Taehyun joked, nudging the other playfully. Yeonjun snickered, rolling his eyes.
"Or a cat."
Taehyun giggled, running a hand through his hair. Their laughter settled down, Yeonjun gripping the side of the crate tightly as he looked at Taehyun.
