Over the next couple of weeks Camila doubled her work and buckled down. She figured if everyone believed in her why couldn't she?
She did the work (taking home some of it too most nights) and fast tracked getting her GED with Ally so that she could get to focusing on her new job.
"Alright Karla, that finishes up just about every subject! You've really applied yourself and proved to be my best student like I thought you would be." Ally told her and she closed the textbook and packed everything away.
Camila smiled at Ally and stretched back in her seat.
"How do you feel? Are you confident for the test on Monday?" Ally asked the Cuban as Camila closed her notebook.
"I'm a bit nervous to be honest... I might try and squeeze in a few more hours of study after work tomorrow before going to sleep." Camila told the blonde.
She'd grown quite close with her teacher and she considered her a friend, but not close enough to spill her dirty little secret. I mean, technically she hasn't lied. She's just used her first name instead of her second. She was never very fond of the name Karla but with how often she'd heard it over the last couple of months. She had to admit that it was growing on her.
"Well if you'd like, we can meet up after you finish work and I can help you out? My shout for coffee for my best student!" Ally offered.
"You don't nee-" Camila started.
"I insist, Karla. You're my friend too, and I help my friends." Ally told her with a big smile.
Camila caved at her smile and reciprocated one back. "That would be amazing, Ally. Can we meet at my office at 5?" Camila asked.
"Sure! We can go to that café near your work you were telling me about." Ally told her, standing up and throwing her bag over her shoulder.
"Sounds great, Ally. I'll see you tomorrow. Thanks again, Ally." Camila told her, walking her out.
"It was my pleasure, Karla. Goodnight." And with that Ally was out the door and on her way home for the evening.
"So? What do you think of the new office? Pretty great huh?" Ryan asked.
He was showing his boss around the office today since they finished the renovations last week.
They had opened up the space and made it feel more cosy. They didn't want a stressful, cramped work environment for they're employees so Ryan had insisted that it was a necessary thing for the business.
"It's lovely, Ryan. And how's the new team coming along?" Lauren asked her friend.
"They're doing really well, Lauren. Look, here comes Camila now!" Ryan told her.
Camila had just closed up the meeting room she'd used for work that day and was digging through her purse before meeting Ally for their study date when she heard her name. Her eyes flew up to meet her boss with a friendly smile but once she saw Lauren the colour drained from her face.
"Miss. Jauregui... Pleasure to meet you." Camila told her nervously, holding out her hand to shake.
"Lovely to meet you too, Camila." Lauren told her with a soft smile.
"Camila here is the team leader you chose. She's exceeding all expectations and is one of the best workers I've ever met." Ryan praised, patting Camila on the shoulder.
"Well that's lovely to hear," Lauren replied, her smile growing. "I would love to hear more about what you think-" Lauren started before getting cut off.
"Karla! Are you ready for our study session?" Ally asked as she walked over.
Camila's heart dropped into her stomach and a lump formed in her throat as Laurens eyebrows frowned, her hands dropping from where they were to her sides as she stared at the Cuban and her friend. "Karla?" She mumbled.
Camila looked between Lauren and Ryan, Ally placing a hand on her shoulder. She could vaguely hear her asking what was wrong before she brushed her hand aside and started speed walking to the elevator.
To her luck, as she got to the doors, someone else was walking out of the elevator allowing her to make a quick escape. Getting in she hurriedly pressed the ground floor button a few times while she watched Ally, Ryan and Lauren talk for a moment before the raven haired woman turned on her heel.
Panic rose in Camila's chest as Lauren took long strides towards the elevator, "Karla!" She called out as the doors started closing.
Camila went to press the open button but hesitated as she saw the scowl on Laurens face. And just like that, the doors closed and she was out of sight.
Camila let out a breath of relief as she stared at herself in the metal reflection of the doors.
"Holy fuck.... Holy fuck! What the hell am I suppose to do?! She knows where you live you idiot!" Camila yelled at herself, rushing out as the doors opened on the ground floor.
She worriedly eyed the front desk where the receptionist was on the phone so someone, quickening her step to reach the revolving doors.
She could here the elevator dinging behind her and she almost threw herself into a sprint at the sound.
It was almost surprising how fast she was moving in her heels but it didn't stop her from getting to the door and getting out of there.
Once she was outside she started to walk. She didn't care where she went but she knew she couldn't go back to the apartment. She knew that Lauren would either call or show up, and knowing the strong headed CEO she knew she was bound to show up.
