chapter two: White Tail woods

Varian woke with a start, jolting wide awake at the sound of a loud bustling group of birds.

It took him a few seconds to realize he wasn't in his room.
That the events of the previous day weren't just a bad dream.

It really did happen, he really was a deer.

He got out of his hiding spot, hooves touching the dew covered grass.
Everything looked different, sounded different.
It was more vibrant and more real.
His newfound scenes exploded as his mind raced.

"Ok Varian " he breathed in deeply " Let's see..."

He looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, trying to remain calm.

"Your all alone, as a young buck, lost in a forest you don't know..." he gave a nervous laugh " how can it possibly get any worse. "

And as if he had to say it, things did get worse.
He stiffed as her heard a wolf in the distance, his head sticking straight up, ears shifting towards the sound.

He stood still, tail held up like a warning flag, feet planted deep in the soft damp ground.

He felt the ground move, vibrate, as if to tell him "Run Varian Run"
Instincts he didn't know he had spurred him into a leap as the sudden loud snap of jaws sounded behind him.

He gave a yelp, the wolf behind him snarled as Varian ran for his life, dodging this way and that, panic seizing him.

"Repeat that one more time for me Pascal?"
Rapunzel said, holding her friend up to her closer.

Pascal squeaked as he told her again what he had seen happen to the young alchemist.

Rapunzel gasped and nodded her head along listening intently.

Lance leaned over to Eugene, whispering holding his hand next to his face shielding his words from the princess.
"How do we know of he's telling the truth?"

"The frogs usually right " Eugene watched as the two kept talking.

"Ughhhhh- he's a chameleon Eugene."

"I know that Lance, it's just easier to call him a frog." He said looking at Lance from the side.

Lance was about to say something but Rapunzel's loud exclamation scared them both.

"What is it sunshine?"

Rapunzel ran over to where they both stood " Its absolutely horrible Eugene!"
She cried.
"Pascal said a big shady guy forced Varian to drink something and it turned him into the fawn we ran into yesterday!"

Eugene and Lance both stood shocked and exchanged a glance.

"Soooo...." Lance said, look back and for between them all.

"What do we do!?" Rapunzel said, face falling worried for her young friend.

"Well, we should probably tell his Dad, and go looking for him ourselves. " Eugene said, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

Rapunzel put a determined fist into her hand " your right, we can't just sit by while Varian is out there all alone. "

"That's the spirit "

"Let's go find V-man!" Lance put an arm around each of them.

" Come on guys!" Raps grabbed Eugene's hand ran off towards the cities edge.

Heaving and panting he collapsed to the ground of the forest floor.
Somehow, he had managed to escape the wolf, but he wound up finding himself more lost in the process.
