Mark didn't have a destination. He didn't have a clue on what he was doing, nor did he have a clue on why he decided to do this. But there he was, sitting in an empty bus with Donghyuck as the bus makes its way to the last stop of the night.
They were far from home, almost half away across the big city. But they stayed seated throughout the stops they've stopped at, watching the bus get emptier and emptier.
If it weren't for the music playing through Donghyuck's airpod, and the small conversations they had, Mark was sure he would've fallen asleep.
The bus came to a stop, the driver telling them it was the last stop. They got off, watching the bus drive away from view.
Mark had no clue where he was.
Donghyuck looked to Mark once the bus was long gone, a look of curiousness. "Where to now, Mark?" The boy asked softly, voice laced with exhaustion. But he still managed to give Mark a small smile, despite the tiredness taking a toll on him.
Mark didn't say anything. Rather, he started to walk down the sidewalk. Everything was closed, everything was silent. Oddly, it was nice.
Donghyuck followed.
They walked and walked and walked, till they ended up at an old abandoned playground. It was only a rest stop, as they still had a whole night to go.
Mark sat on the swings, which were kind of rusty, making a squeaky sound everytime he moved. Donghyuck came over, sitting on the other swing.
Mark had a billion questions ready to burst out his mouth. But he held back, watching the way Donghyuck was slowly rocking back and forth on the swing, dozing off.
He felt bad, for keeping Donghyuck away from his bed.
"Haechan," Mark started softly. Donghyuck hummed out a reply, shaking his head slight as he put his attention on Mark. "Why... were you so quiet when we got off the ride?" He asked, avoiding Donghyuck's eyes.
He wanted to know. He didn't want to forever be clueless on why Donghyuck was so silent when they got off the Ferris wheel. It's only been a few hours, yet, his mind was scrambling for an answer.
Donghyuck didn't say anything for a few seconds. "It's embarrassing." Donghyuck whispers, a small laugh pushing past his lips.
Mark looks up, brows furrowing together, staring at the boy with a confused look. "Embarrassing? What was embarrassing?"
Donghyuck shakes his head. "I don't wanna tell you. I'd rather take this to my grave." He snorts, a small smile growing on his lips.
Now Mark was even more curious.
"c'mon, just tell me. I promise you, what ever it is, I won't laugh." Mark says with a small pout. But all Donghyuck gave was a head shake, and a small no.
They say in silence for the next couple of minutes. Except, it wasn't an awkward silence. It felt nice, and Mark felt relaxed, like nothing mattered, like he didn't have problems to deal with.
Maybe it was because he wasn't in his neighbourhood, reminding him of all the problems in his life. Or maybe it was because of Donghyuck, who was keep his company.
Either way, he was content.
Donghyuck was the first to break the silence. "Can you buy me snacks now?" He asked, slowly turning to Mark. His head was rested on the chains of the swing, hands in his lap as he slowly rocked back and forth.
Mark smiles lazily, slowly nodding.
Donghyuck remembers passing by a small convenience store on the way to the park, so he leads the way, while Mark follows.
The walk was quiet; but not the kind where it was awkward. It was a nice quiet. At least to Mark, it was. He just hopes Donghyuck was as comfortable and happy as he was, though it was hard to tell.
When they made it to the store, there was only one customer at the back of the store looking at the alcohol section. The two decided to head to the ramen.
"So," Donghyuck starts, looking at the wide variety of ramens he could choose from. "what's the budget?" He asks, turning to Mark.
Mark reaches into his pocket, pulling out a few bills. "This is our budget." He says, showing the money to the younger with wide eyes.
Donghyuck smiles.
"We'll make it work." He says softly.
