Today wasn't a good day, after all. Exactly two weeks ago, my mom decided to invite Akashi Seijuro to our house for dinner. What supposed to be a one-time only turned into an everyday habit. So for exactly two weeks, Akashi has been walking home with me and eats dinner with me.
It doesn't bother me, at first. After all, he makes my mom happy. He was the first child my mom took care of and I couldn't be selfish enough to take that happiness away from her.
But rumors started spreading out about me and Akashi going home together that it was too much of a hassle already. A lot of girls from the third year kept giving me glares when they can and guys kept teasing me about it.
When lunch came, I was about to march to Akashi's table and tell him to make the rumors stop but one third year blocked my path and tried to intimidate me. Of course, I was already in a bad mood so she was the one who received my wrath instead of Akashi.
Then again, Akashi gave me a handful of chores to finish.
Nana laughed so hard as we pack our bags to go home. "It's almost summer and you're getting yourself community service?" she exclaimed, looking so amuse as she patted my back. "Ah, Eri, you're one-of-a-kind."
I swatted her hand away, looking so annoyed. "I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult."
"Of course, that's a compliment. You sure have guts to face Akashi." she told me. "I've been in the same junior high as him and none of his team mates ever stood up to him like you do."
Her revelation had me in shock causing me to stop and face her. "What? You were in the same middle school as him?"
She nodded. "Didn't I tell you about that?"
"No, so you're telling me you're actually from Tokyo?"
She nodded. "Actually, I was meaning to tell you that. I was going to invite you, Aki, and Kai to our house in Tokyo for summer break but you had things to do so.."
"Are you kidding me?" I yelled in frustration as I put my hands up to my head and mess it up. Nana looked at me inquisitively. "I've always wanted to go to Tokyo."
"Eh?" she gasped. "You haven't been to Tokyo?"
I shook my head. "I grew up in Germany and I only moved back here when I was 10 or 11. Even then, I studied in a middle school near Tokyo but I haven't been to Shibuya or wherever." I explained. Now that I think of it, it seems so sad that I had spent almost 6 years in Japan for nothing.
"I want you to come." Nana told me. "But you can't just ignore Akashi, Eri. He'll kill you." she reminded.
I shrugged and started thinking. My community service will start on summer exactly two weeks from now. I know I should do it but this is my chance to go to Tokyo. "Then, I'm going with you."
She seems surprised and somehow looked like she was hesitating. "But Akashi..."
"Don't worry, I'll take care of him."
She sighed. "Okay, if Akashi kills you, I'm not accountable for it."
I laughed and draped an arm around her. "Yes, don't worry. He won't kill me."
"Who won't kill you?" a voice butted in from our backs. We turned our head and saw Akashi wearing the uniform without the blazer. His sleeves were rolled up to his arm, the tie was missing, and two buttons were open.
'What the hell is this?' I thought to myself as I took in his appearance. His get-up was so not the Akashi I knew. I'm used to the always-so-formal Akashi, not this rugged Akashi. This was so unlikely that it's scaring me. For a moment, I found him sexy. "What the hell are you wearing?" I blurted without thinking.
