"Caroline? Where are you?" The little girl wondered around the dim hallways of her home whilst light shone through the slightly open window.
It was summer time at the Forbes' house and Violet was there for the week. Right now however, she was on the hunt for her mother and sister.
Despite what Sheriff Forbes said about not leaving the house, Violet was scared and alone being at home without her sister and Mom there so, slipping on her small shoes, Violet opened the front door and closed it behind her.
She may have been a 6 year old girl, but she had a little more confidence walking around outside to look for her family rather than in the dark of her small home.
"Come on Mom, I'm hungry and I want pizza tonight!" Violet called out, dragging her feet with every step she took away from the house.
Just as she was about to step foot on the path, a rustling of noise was emitted from the direction of the woods behind her.
Spinning around, Violet bit her lip and began to walk in the direction of the woods.
"Mom?" She called out again, hoping inside the her and Caroline were just prancing her and were going to jump out and scare her.
The further she walked into the forest however, the more worried she became.
Paranoia made itself known in the back of her mind as there was more rustling and suddenly the cry of an animal sounded.
Curious about what was going on, Violet continued and peered around a large tree that blocked her view from whatever was happening.
Her eyes widened as she saw the back of a man who was crouching over a deer that was struggling slightly on the floor.
She sucked in a breath which caused the man to stop suddenly.
He stood up slowly and turned to face the frightened girl.
His face was dark with blood red eyes with grey veins underneath them. Blood also trickled out from the corners of his mouth which stained his lips.
"Who are you?" The man questioned, a deep growl in his voice.
"I-I'm loo-looking for my sis-sister" Violet gulped, absolute fright filling her features and a tear falling from her eyes.
It was like she was facing a monster. A vampire. Like in all the books she had read when she was even younger.
In the blink of an eye, the man was standing directly in front of the girl.
She stumbled back a step and gasped.
"You need to leave." He breathed, his bright green eyes staring intently at her neck.
Violet didn't need to be told twice, she had already turned and sprinted back in the direction of her house.
She quickly looked back to see if the man was still there but to her surprise he had vanished.
A small cry came out of her as she finally made it back to her house, ripping the door open she ran in and slammed it shut, locking it behind her.
"Violet? Hun? Is that you?" A soothing female voice called from further in the house.
Quickly, Violet ran into the front room to have her heart slow down. Her Mom and her sister both sat in the front room watching TV.
Caroline was sitting on the floor with Sheriff Forbes sitting behind her on the couch, putting her daughters hair into little plaits.
"There you are." Elizabeth Forbes smiled warmly, using her free hand to pay the free space on the sofa next to her "Come sit."
