The future

"Why can't you come to my place later? I was hoping we could hang out, just the two of us again." Childe frowned.

"I told you, I need to see Mona!" You laughed.

He sighed, putting his phone in his pocket and coming closer to you.

"How long will you be at Mona's?" He asked, sadly.

"Hmm... I don't think it'll be too long? How about I call you once I'm done, and since it's Friday we can go out or something later?" You offered, glancing over at him.

"I like this plan." He smiled, grabbing your hand and intertwining your fingers.

"Ewww."

He gave an offended look, which only became more enhanced when you snorted.

"This probably why Beidou called you my boyfriend." You chuckled.

"I see.." He replied.

The two of you continued to talk as always, and joke around as you walked towards Mona's place.

"Don't forget to call me!" Childe huffed.

You nodded, turning to Mona's apartment. Before you could walk away, Childe called you back over. You groaned, turning around and walking back.

"Yes?"

He smirked before replying.

"Can I get a hug?"

You face palmed at him as he opened his arms, but you still walked into them. He did give great hugs, probably the best.

It wasn't like Mona would be there anytime soon, so you decided not to move yet... though the silence was soon broken.

"If you like this so much, then why were you so bothered about it?" He chuckled.

"Oh shush! I could go find Mona's key and leave you, ya know." You replied quite aggressively, but it was muffled by his hoodie.

"You don't want to though, right?" He teased.

You didn't know how to respond, so instead you just laughed a little. He didn't say anything else until a couple minutes later.

"I see Lumine and Aether coming, are they hanging here too?" He asked.

You nodded, letting go of him. You were a little sad to, but it was just about time to go inside.

"Yeah, we're all gonna hang out for a bit... well, I dunno about Aether but he might." You grinned.

"I supposed I should go then..  Teucer should be getting home soon. See you later!" He winked, waving as he turned to walk down the street.

"Bye!" You shouted, then walking towards the usual hiding place of Mona's key.

Under a small frog statue that was next to her favorite tree in the front yard. As you crouched down to grab it, Lumines voice boomed from behind you.

"Oh dearest (N/n)~?" She sang.

"Yes my dear Lumi~?" You called back, taking Mona's key before placing the statue down once again.

Aether laughed, pulling out his phone.

"As one of your best friends, it is my professional job to capture your embarrassing moments... though this one is rather cute, I'd say?" She smiled evilly.

Aether pulled up a picture of you and Childe hugging.

"You two were like that for so long, we couldn't help it!" She squealed.

"You mean you couldn't help it.. She made me take the picture because her phone is dead." Aether smiled, rolling his eyes.

"Though, you two are pretty cute together." He added.

"H-.. We aren't even? dating?" You stuttered, confused.

"Ohoho, not yet you aren't! You cannot hide it from us, though, that you feel some sort of way for him~!" Lumine replied in a matter of fact tone.

"Depends on what some sort of way means... Anyways, we should head in! You coming Aether?" You changed the subject, successfully.

"I think I'll head home for now. I have to study for a test tomorrow, but have fun!" He smiled, walking off towards their home.

You and Lumine watched him for a minute, before turning around and heading into Mona's house.

"Alright, we should get started quickly as I have to be somewhere later!" Mona shouted, walking through the door.

"Awe, can't hang after?" Lumine asked, hanging upside down from a couch.

"Unfortunately not, but there's always other days! For now, let's do the reading!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands together.

You and Lumine quickly got up, following Mona into the basement where all her supplies were kept. You didn't pay attention to exactly what, but she grabbed a few items before going upstairs to grab a match.

Both you and Lumine sat in two chairs that were in front of a small table. She convinced you to play a game of sticks with her while you waited for Mona.

She had a lead on you for a good minute, but you managed to turn the game around. Right before you could have your sweet victory..

"Alright, we have to start now. Let me set everything up and then we can move on!" Mona called down as she came back into the basements entrance.

The two of you nodded, getting even more excited. Mona was good at these types of things, after all.

Mona's eyes were closed and she looked extremely focused. She was concentrating hard on what she was seeing. You and Lumine would occasionally glance at each other, nervous smiles on your faces.

As promises, neither of you made a peep to make sure Mona would give the Mona accurate reading possible.

It wasn't long after that she quickly opened her eyes, a look of panic in her eyes.

"This.. can't be. We're either of you messing around with anything?!" She asked, trying to stay calm.

"No we didn't touch anything! Why..?" Lumine replied, nervously.

"It's.. Let me see if I can get a different vision." She mumbled, closing her eyes again, eyebrows furrowed.

Lumine looked at you nervously, to which you raised an eyebrow in confusion.

Mona gave it another few minutes before slowly opening her eyes.

"Listen.. It could be about anything honestly, but I'm seeing that you don't have much time left.. I'm unsure of the context, though." She quietly trailed off, trying to think.

"Don't have much time left?! So I could..?" You didn't finish.

"It's.. possible. But like I said, it could mean anything! Just... be careful." She added.

Lumine couldn't say a word. If death was a possibility, then her best friend could be no more very soon. If Mona said be careful, was that a warning..?

"I'm going to go home for now.. Thank you, though." You said, giving a small smile and a wave, before heading up the stairs.

The smile didn't even last until you made it outside. There was a possibility you'd be gone soon.
