'Maze!' Eve waves as she saunters over.

Mazikeen's heart flutters, Ella's heart drops.

'W-What are you doing here?' The demon who always kept her stone-cold facade now speaks wearing her heart on her sleeve. This isn't typical Maze, and Ella can tell. She can tell she is going to lose her friend, her lover, quite soon.

'Seriously?' She asks, her eyes wide open in confusion. She gestures to the barman to get her a drink and continues. 'Lucifer being chosen as God's successor is not nothing. I dropped everything as soon as I heard! Where is he? I imagined he'd be here, celebrating.'

Maze jumps off her chair, kicking the thing far behind her. 'He's WHAT?' Eve shrinks away from her, slightly taken aback at her outburst.

'You didn't know?' Her voice is wispy as if she knew she screwed up. 'I imagined you'd be the first he'd tell! Did he tell Chloe yet?'

Sinking into a massive anger breakdown, Mazikeen supports herself on the side of the bar. She could not believe Lucifer would keep something this huge from her, especially after she had confronted him about it. Why hadn't he just told her?

'I'm going to kill him.'

'Maze, I'm sure he had his reasons!' Eve takes Maze's hands in her own and it seems to work. She's calming down. 'Besides,' Eve moves a bit closer, 'I think he would need someone to be his right-hand demon so make sure not to anger him.' There's something playful in her voice as if she had already made her own plans with Lucifer's promotion.

Tempted as she is, she shakes her head to finetune some details. 'Why does God even want to give up his rule?'

'It's time for his retirement!'

'But why now?' Maze grits her teeth, 'Out of all these centuries? Why now? What game is he playing?'

'No need to ask so many questions, we just need to be supportive of Lucifer! Speaking of, I think we should pay him a visit right now. Are you coming?' Eve looks at Ella, who shakes her head.

'Suit yourself!' Eve grabs Mazikeen's hand and leads her to Lucifer's apartment. Too enthralled by the touch of her beloved, Maze doesn't even turn around to say anything to Ella. She just leaves.

And Ella who, despite all transparency, had remained clueless about Lucifer's real identity, had been sitting there throughout their entire conversation. She heard it all and this time she would no longer be able to turn a blind eye. Maze and Eve had not really paid any attention to her because Ella being around had always felt right. Besides, Linda and Chloe knew, so Ella still being oblivious was something they often forgot. And now it was out there, and she could not move.

Ella had gone straight to bed after the evening with Mazikeen and Eve's intrusion. She had spent hours tossing and turning but couldn't catch a wink. She had just discovered something huge and as someone who used to be religious, she couldn't pretend this was nothing.

God is real.

Lucifer is actually Lucifer.

God is going on retirement.

Lucifer will be the new God.

Nothing made sense in Ella's head. How many Gods had there been? Had they ever heard Ella say her evening prayers? Had they seen her sin?

Would she be going to Hell?

Ella's entire world had come crashing down and she regretted ever renouncing the Almighty. But maybe Lucifer would forgive her, with him being God and all. Everything that had to do with the Bible made Ella's stomach turn as it never had before.

Most importantly... who exactly is Maze? What is her part in all of this?

After a restless sleep full of questions, she pretends all is fine and goes to work. It is barely 7 AM and the building is still coming to life. The silence, that's what she really needs. With all that she heard, the only thing she could do to calm herself down was work. She would work until she dropped. And she had a killer of a case to solve.
