I walk down the empty halls, in my nightdress, the moon was shining brightly outside as I look out of one of the windows on the dark stone wall. After a few more seconds, I reach where I was heading. I opened the large dark mahogany doors to the Royal library.

Many books lined up in rows of shelves. The room was big, taking up almost the entire upper east wing of the castle I called home. The smell of old books with a hint of coffee hit my nose in full force, making me take in a deep breath of the delicious smell. I have always loved the library.

I smile softly as I took the seat in the far end corner on a windowsill that overlooked the vast forest and the clear river at the back of the castle. I took the book I had been reading recently and flipped to the page I had folded at the corner. I immediately got into reading it, intrigued by random facts. I lost track of time until I heard a throat clear behind me. I gasped, turning around a little too quickly and making my head spin.

"Hah. It is just you. You scared me half to death. Please announce your arrival next time, dear brother.", I look over my brother's still neatly pressed shirt and pants. His hair gelled to perfection as it had been this morning and during the dinner when I had last seen him.

"I would ask you what you are doing so late out of bed but it is quite clear from what I see.", said my brother with a soft smile and sat down beside me at the window sill.

"You know I can't sleep after what happened at dinner. But you, my sweet little brother, what are you doing up this late night? You're not even dressed for bed.", I questioned him, raising an eyebrow curiously.

"Oh it has been busy as usual. Our mother did an amazing job hiding the Royal Emerald before she died. Just another all-nighter for the warriors.", My brother, Elijah said with a hint of annoyance. Wyatt was the Head of Warriors and my brother was still his apprentice, has been since he turned sixteen two years ago.

"Hmm. Do you have any idea why our mother would do that? I don't believe that she just wanted the power all to herself. I don't remember her being like that.", I said slowly afraid he'd get angry.

And he did.

"What do you mean Nemesis? You know our father tried his best to help our people as the king but what did our mother do? Run away with the Royal Emerald and die in the end! All for what? Power? You don't even remember her, you were just six when she left!", Elijah spat out with so much anger, his face started to turn red. He was as pale as our father whereas I had gotten the golden skin of our mother.
