George woke abruptly to the constant sound of ringing coming from his nightstand. He reached his arm over smacking his alarm trying not to move from the comfort of his bed. However no matter how many times he hit his alarm clock, the ringing continued and somehow it seemed to be getting louder.
George eventually gave in and ripped of his duvet and waddled over to the nightstand to figure out the problem.
12 missed calls from Mum
4 text messages from Mum
George cursed under his breath and picked up his phone ready to be yelled at. He had to mentally prepare himself for a minute before plucking up the courage to call her back.
"Yes Mum what is it?" he asked.
"GEORGE WHY WEREN'T YOU PICKING UP? I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU! YOU'RE WORSE-"
George held the phone with his arm outstretched away from him. Even at an arm's length he could still hear her shouting. He was just glad that he didn't put it on speaker otherwise half the building would be woken up by it.
George smiled through gritted teeth and replied, "Yes I'm very sorry... won't happen again... I understand."
George's mum rambled on not getting to the point while George just mumbled in agreement every now and then. It was the only way for her to ever get to the point without being distracted.
"Look George I have decided with one of my friends to set you up on a blind date with her daughter. I know that you're currently single."
"What?"
"Don't be so rude. She's a lovely girl and we have already set it up. It's at 8pm at the pizza place in the town over and she's called Amanda."
"I don't need you to find me a partner mum," George whined.
"No ifs or buts you're going. I'll send you the details. Bye darling," she said and hang up the phone on George.
George sulked about his apartment for the rest of the day however as the time got closer he began warming up to the idea of it. It couldn't be that bad after all. He peered through his wardrobe looking for suitable clothing to wear. It was practically empty with nothing suitable. The majority of his clothes were tattered and faded with age. Eventually he decided on some black jeans and a navy hoodie. Simple but basically all he had at this point.
He was sent a photo of her to help him recognise her. George thought was decently pretty. Not a patch on Dream of course but definitely a step above the rest. She had curly red hair that fell to her shoulders and a devilish smile plastered onto her face. From the description his mum gave him, she seemed nice enough with a likeable personality but George was just taking her word for it.
The time dragged along and it got to the point where George was just pacing up and down his apartment in anticipation. It would be a refreshing change of scenery and a possible new friend if it didn't work out.
George watched the clock turn 7:40 and he made his way out of his apartment to the uber he had ordered that would be waiting outside. George stepped into the elevator ready to hit the ground floor button when he heard a voice call out to hold the doors. It was Dream. He looked good.
"George what a surprise to see you going outside for once," teased Dream.
"Yeah I'm actually going a blind date with someone," George replied. Dream turned away for a second from George leaving him unaware that his smile had fallen. Dream turned back around forcing a smile onto his face that didn't quite reach his eyes.
