"oh, my baby!" karen cooed as she opened the front door of her large house, and was faced with the sight of michael and arabella. michael let out a loud groan, but arabella only laughed nervously at michael's mother's over-the-top gesture.

she waved them inside the large foyer quickly, not bothering to get on a first name basis before letting michael and his girlfriend in.

she smiled brightly at the couple and sighed, "it's so good to finally meet you," karen looked over at arabella who was blushing.

"you too." she said shyly.

michael groaned at his embarrassing, seemingly slightly drunk mother, and placed his and arabella's bags down on the floor beside them.

"i'm glad michael has finally found someone he loves." she said softly. it was kind of a weird thing to say to someone you've just met, michael thought, but he didn't say anything to further embarrass arabella.

michael coughed, awkwardly, still embarrassed for arabella, whom he hadn't even introduced yet.

"mom, this is ar- bella."

he stopped himself from introducing her to his mother with the name only he could call her.

his mother smiled her large smile, "of course it is. i know who she is, you don't have to introduce me."

michael shook his head warily, "no mom, you've never met her, so i do need to introduce you two. you sound like a creeper."

"i am not a creeper." his mother said in her faux-shocked voice, "you've told me all about her, i feel like i know her already."

"whatever mom," michael sighed, "just introduce yourself. i'm not as proud of you as i am of her, so she's heard near to nothing about you."

karen smiled as if michael hadn't just insulted her, "that's alright. all the more for me to tell her. i bet there's a few things about you that she'd like to know."

michael groaned, "i'm looking forward to visiting dad already."

michael's father lived on the opposite side of town, partially due to the fact that karen had insisted on it. and partially due to the fact daryl (michael's father) usually did everything that karen asked him to do. as previously mentioned, he was a pretty laid back guy, so things like that didn't faze him.

"you're visiting him too?"

"of course i am. i couldn't just come and visit you, that would be rude." michael said, rolling his eyes. of course his mother would be angry about the fact that michael was not only here to visit her.

"i doubt he would've cared," karen scoffed. "he never made much effort to be around you when you were a kid."

michael rolled his eyes, "are you seriously pulling that card? did you ever think that maybe it was because i was always around you, and he avoided you best as he could when you two were married."

"he shouldn't have done that." his mother said, tilting her chin up in defiance. michael knew that she knew that he was right, but her pride would not let her admit it.

"i would've too, if i had been married to you for eighteen years. you're way too high maintenance for dad."

she sighed, agreeing, "it's a wonder he actually stayed married to me for that long. although i guess the never-being-home helped him cope. oh and the cheating."
