Summary: (AU) Louis goes to the local bookstore for a book, but there's only one more copy and someone else wants it.
This was apparently all my writer's block would let me write. Hopefully, it's okay? Also, the photos are my nails, just got them done (:

"Payno, they've probably got none left, didn't that book just come out yesterday?"Louis groaned, leaning back in his office chair. He loved Liam, really, but who wants to go and buy books at 7 pm on a Wednesday?
Liam nodded, still typing away on his computers. "It did, yes, which is why I was hoping you could go and see if they have any more copies before they close."
Louis mumbled a string of profanity under his breath, grabbing his keys and sliding his phone into his pocket. "Fine, you're lucky I love you."
Liam winked and waved at him as he left the office.

Opening the door to Barnes & Noble, Louis scanned the slightly busy store for wherever the hell they'd keep newly published books. Having no clue, Louis strolled around while fiddling with the black pen in his pocket he probably stole from Zayn sometime and forgot to take it out.
Noticing a worker nearby, Louis tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me?"
The boy turned around and hummed with a smile, though Louis seemed at lost for words. This boy was gorgeous.
His curly brown hair fell in front of his face, sparkling green eyes peeking out from behind the locks. He was taller than Louis (curse his shortness) but still looked as if he'd apologize to a dog after accidentally tripping over the animal. The boy's charming smile could light up a room.
"Hi, could I help you with something?"
Louis blinked, clearing his throat. "Oh yeah- do you know where I could find this book?"
Harry- as his name tag said- visibly frowned at the picture Louis showed him but he quickly masked it with a smile. "Sure, guess you're lucky, we've only got one more copy."
Louis didn't like how that frown looked or how that fake smile looked but followed Harry anyway. The green-eyed boy picked up the last book on the table and handed it to Louis. Louis thanked him, but the frown made its way back onto Harry's face. Even though it was obvious he was trying to hide it, Harry was upset and that didn't sit well with the shorter boy.
"Are you okay?" Louis asked, concerned. Harry quickly put on a smile.
"Yeah- I'm fine, sorry. It's- It's just you got the last copy and I wanted to buy that book," said Harry. Louis immediately felt upset at this. Promising to get Liam some other gift, he tried to hand Harry the book.
"No, um thank you, but my boss doesn't let me buy any books during my shift even if it is over in about five minutes." Harry smiled sadly, casting a longing glance to the book. Someone else came over and asked Harry a question, so Harry left with a shy wave to Louis.
Louis sent him a lovestruck, dopey grin before making a plan in his mind. He ran to the checkout, joining the long line.
Once it was his turn he paid for the book (which was just about twenty-five dollars. Why the fuck are books so expensive? Good thing Liam makes good money) and pulled the pen out of his pocket. Louis opened the book and scribbled a note on the front, blank page.
This is for you, Curly. Repay me with a date? -Louis x ###-###-####
Grinning, Louis quickly found Harry near the door where he was leaving. "Harry!"
The boy turned around, smiling a little. "Hi, I was- uh- just leaving actually-"
Louis forced the book into the other boy's hand (knowing he wouldn't take it if he tried to hand it to him like a normal person). "For you." Louis grinned at his shocked expression.
"But-"
"No buts, I want you to have it. See you around, yeah?" With that, Louis left the store with a happy heart and hopes Harry will message him, and it wasn't all for nothing.

Hi Louis, this is Harry. I saw your note. Curly? x
Louis snatched his phone off the bedside table when it binged, falling off his bed with a yelp as Liam rushed in.
"What was that?" He said, looking around as if he expected a serial killer to jump out of nowhere.
"HARRY!" Louis squealed excitedly, looking at his phone. Liam breathed a sigh of relief, thankful it was just the guy who Louis wouldn't shut up about ever since he got home an hour ago.
Louis clicked on Harry's notification, reading it over multiple times before replying.
Maybe I should call you bookstore cutie instead? xx
