"Dream, you have a visitor." A calming voice echoed through Dreams head.
His eyes seemed glued shut and he strained to turn his head. Shadows and lights were all he could make out. The silhouette of a man with wide shoulders came into his obstructed view.
"Hey dude." It was Sapnap's voice and it sounded tired and aged.
Dream groaned.
"Don't try and talk. Save your energy." Sapnap said, tenderly.
Dream nodded, resting his head on the pillow that was behind him. His body ached and he couldn't feel anything below his waist.
How long had he been there?
"So what's the damage, doc?" Sapnap asked from somewhere in the room.
"Dislocated patella in the left knee, dislocated hip, both tibia bones fractured, hip pointer on the right side, four broken ribs and a grade three concussion." The doctor said, tapping her pen against a clipboard.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
The sound gave Dream a headache.
"Holy shit," Sapnap sighed.
"No worries though," the doctor reassured. "Your friend is in good hands and I'm sure he'll appreciate you flying all the way here from Texas."
"I hope so." Dream could hear Sapnap forcing a smile.
Dream struggled to open his eyes. He wanted to see Sapnap and thank him for coming to see him but every little movement took up all his energy. Slowly his eyes fluttered open and he scanned the room. There was a chair to his right, sitting beneath a window and a bathroom directly across from him. He was laying in a hospital bed, covered with a blanket and a sheet. Dream's hands and forearms were wrapped in gauze and he couldn't move his legs.
Sapnap was standing to his left with his arms crossed and Dream turned his head slightly to look him in the eyes.
"I'll leave you two alone. Let me know if I can be of any help." The doctor said, smiling and walking out of the room.
"You look fucking terrible." Sapnap exclaimed, rubbing his temples.
Sapnap had never been good at knowing what to say during serious situations but Dream understood that he meant no harm.
"Th- thanks," Dream mumbled sarcastically.
His voice was shaky and sounded like there was something in his throat.
Sapnap walked across the the room and sat down in the chair.
"I heard the doctors talking," Sapnap started. " I'm pretty sure you've been cleared to go home today."
"Already?" Dream grumbled.
"Well, you've been here for three days now." Sapnap said.
"No, I can't go home yet." Dream shook his head. "I- I don't want to be alone."
"Dude, you think I would leave you by yourself like this?" Sapnap chuckled. "I'll stay at your place with you for as long as you need."
Dream smiled slowly, his jaw aching.
A silence hung in the air and Dream began to drift off again. Just before his eyes closed, Sapnap's voice echoed throughout the room.
"You really scared me, Dream." He admitted. "I thought you were dead."
He felt dead.
"George seemed pretty shaken up too." Sapnap said, standing up.
Dream's eyes lit up. Just hearing George's name made his heart flutter.
