Its warm. Why is it so warm here?

“Ugh..”

Keisuke groaned as he sat up rubbing the back of his head before opening his eyes. He was surrounded by a room, the walls were painted a pure white. It was so bright that it seemed as if the entire room was glowing. There were toys littering the ground; jacks in a box, teddy bear, blocks. A white canopy bed sat in the center of the room with the blankets askew and a little ball curled up in the center of it. Keisuke tilted his head to the side and he squinted his eyes. If he looked hard enough, it was as if he could see something peeking out from the blanket. But as soon as he met its’ eyes, whatever it was ducked under the blankets and closed it like a door. He smiled a little and stood to his feet before walking over to the edge of the bed ducking down so that he was out of sight. Hearing the blankets shuffle, he knew that it had to have opened them again. Popping up quickly over the edge, he grinned.

“Boo!”

“AH!”

A shriek that sounded oddly like a child’s. Keisuke drew back onto his haunches and stared into a pair of gray eyes. The child scooted backwards wrapping the blankets around themselves again in an attempt to hide. Keisuke’s surprised expression melted away into one of understanding as he sat down and folded his legs.

“The blankets are really warm, aren’t they? Its almost as if nothing can get you in there. No monsters, nothing. I’m sorry, do I scare you?”

“...No.."

The reply caused a sense of relief to wash over him and he adjusted in his position to reach out a hand.

“Then why don’t you come out? I would surely love to see you.”

A gurgling sound could be heard like the rushing of water or someone gargling. It was a rather grotesque gurgle though. Almost like the sound of a monster but not even that. Glancing over his shoulder, Keisuke could see a bit of color in the room tainting the corner. But it wasn’t a normal color, it was just black. A little dab, nothing more but it was there and for some reason it bothered him. Turning his attention back to the child, he smiled trying to seem inviting.

“The world isn’t a very scary place, come out. I’m sure you’ll like it.”

“People are scary, I don’t want to go..”

The gurling grew louder and Keisuke’s head whipped around. The black dab had grown bigger overtaking the entire corner. A sense of fear began to arise in his chest but he willed it down as he turned back to the cowering child.

“I know that there are people who are scary, but you have to stay strong. You shouldn’t let your fears stop you from seeing everything.”

“But what if it hurts?”

The gurling grew even louder but Keisuke tried to tell himself not to look back.

“Then you just keep trying. No matter how much you’re knocked down.”
