1) I feel like the first part of the song is referring to how John and Michelle first met- at a club in San Francisco in July 1961, they met while John was touring California with his band the Journeymen.
2) Michelle sings lead vocals, which is pretty rare since Cass mostly overpowers her voice in the rest of the songs.
3) Cass singing the last line ties up the song perfectly.
4) The lyrics are just really unique, what's not to love?
