"have you at least started your thesis?"
"..no,"
"el! your essay is due tomorrow!"
the frustrated girl broke into a scowl, "i know that! why else would i ask for your help!" she cried to the book-smart boy in front of her.
mike's eyes narrowed,
"and what do i get from helping you, hmm?" his grinned with head tilted sideways.
his hand that rested on her copy of 'hamlet,' found it's way on the exposed skin of her leg. she felt her throat immediately go dry, and she hated the affect he had on her, so perfectly used to being the one with all the control. nevertheless, she her lips turned upwards into mischievous grin. "i'd make it worth your while.." she teased lightly.
she pecked his lips, "after you help me,"
he smiled, pulling her away from her before his mind got anymore clouded. "alright, alright. now, first we have to choose a thesis."
he spends the first half hour explaining certain plot points to her. the time flies by as they they both scribbled in silence as they tried to come up with points. her page practically blank, his almost half full. she broke her gaze on their pages,"you know, this is reminding me of that time in second grade when you helped me and will with our multiplication tables." she spoke up with a smile.
his face broke out into a grin at the memory,"oh my god, yeah! with the note cards and shit, you two were so bad at memorizing, especially will. i don't get how he's taking AP calculus now."
she smacked his shoulder, "only because you gave me the easy ones and him all the hard ones!" el laughed, reminiscing about how she got 'two times three' flashcards meanwhile will suffered questions like 'twelve times twelve'
"yeah well, you were too cute when you got all excited at a right answer so..." mike recalled her shy, small smile each time he'd flip the card to reflect her right answer.
el blushed. like she actually blushed. gross.
whatever narcissist comment that laid on her tongue disappeared when her bedroom door slammed open,
god, has anyone heard of knocking?!
whatever he began to say fell deaf on her ears, but she recognized wills voice almost immediately, and they both jumped like they were doing something wrong, (well, they were, just not now.)
"—mike?" he queried, a puzzled expression across his features, "what are you doing here? with el?"
mike answered immediately, almost too fast, "helping her with her english essay."
"oh." the groove in his forehead only deepens, "since when were you guys friends?"
this time el answered, "we're not."
mike would be lying if he said it didn't sting. he knew what they were, that they were never really what you'd consider best friends forever before they started sneaking around. even then, her absolute certainty hurt just a bit.
"we're in the same class, why didn't you just ask me?" he asked with faux offence and crossed arms. she mocked his movement by crossing hers too, "because mike has an A. you got an F on the last essay." she said sweetly.
"i told you it's because ms. petra's ass is homophobic!" will grumbled. "but whatever, just came into to tell you i'm going out with some guy i met online so if i die it's because of that." he blew her a kiss before turning to leave.
