CHAPTER 12

"Here we are," Brian said as he opened the door to get out of the car.

"Do we have to go this thing?" I asked nervously. I rubbed the back of my neck as I stepped out of the car.

"What are you so afraid of?" John chuckled. He stepped out of the car and playfully pat me on the back.

"Yeah, you have nothing to be afraid of, Paul," George reassured.

I decided to take the boys' advice and go to the party. The five of us entered the building. This building was large, three storeys, and all of it was party space. The interior had black-painted walls and had velvet red curtains and rugs. We were wearing suits and we felt underdressed.

Since I was a Beatle, I have seen many new things, most of these were classy, but nothing like this house. Tonight was going to be an experience and a half, and I was both nervous and very excited. Tonight could be just what the band needs.

As we were all admiring the view of the house, I felt a hand grip my shoulder from behind. I jumped as I quickly turned around. I saw a middle-aged man. He had black hair streaked with silver combed back and a clean shave. He stared at me with his ocean-blue eyes as he began to speak. "Glad you could make it," He said, offering me a hand.

I shook his hand. "And you must be...?"

"Albert Campbell... It's a pleasure to meet you Mr McCartney, and the rest of you. Please make yourself comfortable," He welcomed.

"Ahh, this must be our host!" John put on his charm as he smiled and held his hand out.

"Indeed it is, Mr Lennon, and I must say, you all look amazing tonight!" Mr Campbell glanced at our outfits then back up to our faces.

"You too, sir," George added.

"Now, would you gentlemen care to begin discussing A Hard Day's Night?" Mr Campbell suggested we get down to business.

"Of course! That is why we're here," Ringo laughed.

"Just this way, gentlemen." Mr Campbell led us through the collection of all beautifully dressed men and women, standing around, sipping on champagne, talking to each other. The whole place was very fancy and sophisticated. It's hard to believe that just half a decade ago, I was playing small gigs at small venues on the streets of Liverpool, and now, here I am, at one of the most sophisticated places I have ever seen.

Mr Campbell walked up onto a stage with a microphone in the centre. He tapped on the top end of the microphone to check the sound before speaking. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I welcome you all here tonight, and most specifically welcome, The Beatles!"

Cheers and applause erupted from the audience as Mr Campbell signalled us to join him on the stage. He pulled the microphone from the stand as he passed it along to each of us. The four of us all individually greeted everybody.

Mr Campbell led us off the stage, as we were walking, John turned to me.

"Oh my Gosh, look how fancy everyone is! I feel so sophisticated," He said with a huge grin plastered on his face. He imitated a posh person sipping a cup of tea with a weird facial expression which caused me to start laughing.

"Is that what you were nervous about tonight?" John continued.

"No, I just had a bad feeling about tonight for some reason. But, it must've been just my mind playing tricks on me, because tonight is going perfectly fine!" I dismissed my mental accusations.

"Please, help yourself to the drinks!" Mr Campbell pointed to a long table full of all kinds of expensive drinks resting in ice buckets and shiny wine glasses scattered around the table neatly.

Mr Campbell picked up a few glasses and opened a bottle of wine which looked very expensive. He popped it open and started pouring it into glasses and handed them to the four of us.

"Thanks." John nodded as he took a sip.

Mr Campbell led us to sit on some very expensive-looking chairs that surrounded an expensive-looking glass table. We began to talk about the album, A Hard Day's Night. We discussed a lot. We discussed the ratings from the movie, the position on the Billboard Charts, and the writing material. I found the discussion very efficient since John and I need to get to writing more material for the next album.

"Mr Lennon, would you like some more wine?" Mr Campbell asked as he glanced at John's empty wine glass.

"Oh, no thanks, Albert." John shook his head.

"Oh, don't be silly! I'll get you some more immediately!" Mr Campbell ignored John's deny as he looked around the party space. He found a woman and signalled her to come to him.

"Alice, please bring this lovely gentleman some more wine, will you?" He requested. We assumed that she must work for him.

"Oh, but I don't want any, thanks," John said to Alice. I could tell John was starting to grow impatient with this man's generosity.

Alice glanced over to Albert with a confused expression.

"Don't listen to him, he wants more wine," He smiled, this sent Alice on her way to fulfil the man's request.

John discretely looked at me and furrowed his eyebrows. He gave me a look that said, "what's happening right now?" and I responded by shrugging my shoulders.

Alice returned with a glass of wine and handed it to John.

"Uh, thanks, sweetie," John told the woman as she left. He glanced at me again, he looked very confused.

We all continued to discuss the album and Mr Campbell began to tell us about his experience with Elvis. I knew a lot about Elvis, he was one of my favourite musical influences. However, I did notice something a little off about his description of the work he did with Elvis. He seemed to get a few major points incorrect. Although he seemed very confident, he seemed to have no idea what he was talking about. This made me feel a little bit suspicious towards him, but I didn't let it consume too many of my thoughts.
