"All my friends always lie to me."

CHAPTER FIVE

"Clarke? How's he holding up?" I ask, closing the door under me, before doing so, yelling, "Shut up you imbiciles!" to the people below us.

Clarke turns to look at me with an amused smile on her face. "Uh, he's okay, I guess. Would you two mind watching him? I'm going to go get some clean water."

I nod, glancing over at Monty. "Yeah, sure." We exchange smiles and she dissapears through the door. I lick my lips before closing the door behind her and walking over to Jasper, who was still fast asleep.

"It's nice of you to care," I hear Monty say out of nowhere. I turn to look at him, confused. "What?"

Monty muffled a chuckle and continued his work. "You don't even know him, yet you come in here every day to check up on him."

"Yeah," I whisper evasively, taking a seat beside the moaning boy. He looked pale and worn, a cold sweat covering his face. The room is silent for a moment and I make sure Jasper is still breathing before calming myself.

"Is it true you and Bellamy were arguing in the woods?" Monty lets out. His eyes widen and he mutters a 'sorry.'

I laugh and keep a constant eye on Jasper. "Yeah, it was intense." I say sarcastically. Monty smiles and rolls his eyes. "No, well, kind of." I pause and think, staring at Jasper's hair. "I mean, he didn't try to kill me, so."

Monty snickers, "Of course not, the King wouldn't kill his lionheart."

"God, Murphy, don't you know how to do anything?" I ask humorously, dirt rubbing under my shoes as I pick up his knife for him. "That's not how you throw a knife." I say, walking next to him and gripping the knife. He watches me but says nothing.

"Need a better grip. It's all-" I position myself and chuck the knife at the tree, "In the wrist." The knife had lodged itself perfectly in the tree with a dull 'thunk!'. Murphy raises his eyebrows and I move to retrieve it. He stops me, pulling my arm back. "You should go," he says.

I notice we're alone, and that I've never really been alone with him before. I brush off the feeling in the pit of my stomach.

"Go? Go where?" I wonder. Murphy walks in front of me and pulls out the knife. "Go hunting with the others. Seems like you kow what you're doing." Murphy turns to leave.

"Wait," I say. "Where do you think you're going?" He moves to face me once more.

"Bellamy's leaving me in charge of camp while he's gone," he answers.

"No one is 'in charge' of camp." I roll my eyes, "Idiot."

I follow Murphy back towards the tents, where Bellamy must have gone. As Murphy reaches out a hand to open up his tent, I stop abruptly, suddenly not feeling so well. I must have turned pale or something because Murphy turns to look at me with concern. "Wren, you okay?" he asks.

I don't understand what's wrong with me. I feel my forehead, which was hot and come to the realization that I'm really tired. I should sit down, I think. "I'm fine," I say breathlessly, opening the tent myself, Murphy following me inside. I take a deep breath, my heart pounding for no reason.

Bellamy had a knife in his hand and I watch him as he sets it down, looking at the both of us suspisciously. "Murphy, Wren. What are you doing in here?"

I lick my dry lips, hoping Murphy would answer for me. "Well, uh," he glances at me. "She came in here to tell you she's coming with you on the hunt. But um... I'm not so sure anymore."
