"Okay, woah woah woah, let's slow down for a second here, how do you know all this?" I asked.
"Because I built it."
"OK, so you built an all-seeing eye?!" I exclaimed, finding this all incredibly unbelievable.
"Yes, I did, Ms. Shaw and we use it to save the irrelevant list. The Machine sends us nothing but social security numbers. We identify the victim or perpetrator and we tail them until the danger is gone." Finch explains.
"But before we do that, you have to be dead, Shaw." Reese stated excitement growing in me. I had never been dead before. New experiences. Always open to them. Although, how we were gonna fake my own death was yet to be figured out.
"Ms. Shaw, please don't forget that once you 'die' there will be no chance of going back to your old life." warned Harold, giving me my last chance to back out.
"Fine by me, like Reese said, anything is better than what my hell hole of a life has to offer," I assured the both of them, showing that I wanted to do this.
"Well, Shaw, welcome to the team," Reese welcomed me with a warm smile. Something tells me he doesn't give those out often.
"There are still two people in our team that you must meet, Ms. Shaw," Finch added.
"Hey, Sameen," I heard a soft, high-pitched voice come from behind me. A beautiful woman, about my height stood before me. She had deep brown eyes, so deep you could drown in them. Her bright red lipstick glowing in the sunlight entering the room through the window. Her loosely curled hair, falling perfectly without her trying. I was broken out of my trance when she said,
"Samantha Groves, but you can call me Root. Nice to have another female in the team." She walked around me, eyeing me up and down, I did the same but more discreetly.
"Ms. Shaw, this will be our only way of communication. This phone is connected to a secure mesh network," Finch says, handing me a phone and an earpiece. I put it on and we tested the audio. As soon as we were finished, a plump man in a beige suit and red tie enters the room.
"Glasses told me to meet here, guess I'm late to the party. Who's this?" the man asked.
"Fusco, Sameen Shaw, Shaw, Detective Lionel Fusco," John said.
"Detective? I thought we couldn't trust the authorities..." I said.
"Lionel here, is one of the only cops we can trust, " Reese assured me.
"Well, in that case, pleasure to meet you, Lionel," I greeted.
"Right back at ya," he responded.
I was part of a team now. People I could work with, and so far they look like people that I can trust but you can never be too careful. With my previous employment, there are more trained operatives after me than I can count. But I had hope on this little 'Suicide Squad' of ours.
"Ms. Shaw, we should probably be on our way." Finch stated, "We have a death to fake."
