Chapter 06-Maya&Dylan: Club Display Re-Selection

MAYA'S POV

Whoever screamed in joy because T.G.I.F. rolled by two days ago had to be shot in the head.

Forced to stay and watch Ernest Dawg rant for three hours straight about the importance of an after-school activity in the cooling, sleepy environment of Clubless killed my pre-weekend and weekend mood.

And whoever thought Monday was a good day for Club Re-Selection had to be shot too.

It was only morning, but the grey clouds were as dull as the sweater I was wearing with my dark skinny jeans. I had looked forward to a fantastic day in school to the point that I was not only running late, I left my phone at home too.

What more to add on to my sour mood than mopey Mack?

He was an absolute flirt in school, still ignoring me every time I bump into him since his crush never spared him a glance, even after winning the swimming contest. He made me feel so visible I could've just been nitrogen. Passing in and out, unseen.

After all, I was the one that allowed him to be this way, to allow myself to be the nobody I am today.

I was never seen as the smartest, or the most talented. I had decent grades, if you don't count art and just like every other normal girl, average at sports with a singing voice that could send all those failed singing auditions to shame. Well, not the worst of the worst, but you get what I mean.

When I had kicked Mack off his podium position in Just Dance with near-perfect moves, I realised I really liked to dance. No, I wasn't the geeky gamer that just moved along because it was a cool game, I was "in the zone" as Mack had quoted.

Just like every normal girl, I didn't have a fabulous body at the age of thirteen. Mack stayed by my side throughout the time I was laughed at for having such a dream.

When we both enrolled into Clymene, I didn't want him with me. He had the perfect opportunity with his stellar swim team tryout results to socialise, and I couldn't let him stick to a loser like me. An older brother could make plenty of sacrifices, but I would see him daily. He, the one minute older twin, needed more friends. I was the shy loner, constantly made fun of.

In short, I was a burden, I asked him to make me a nobody so they would bully someone else.

I just didn't expect the outcome, the impacts of my actions to be what it is now.

His nose was stuck in popularity, so deep until he had refused to acknowledge me as his sister. Yumi Akita, the author of Clymene Weekly's gossip section had interviewed Mack about the "rumour" and he said it was true-he was ex-Olympic swimmer Eric Irwin's only child. My dad hated interviews so there was no verification to Mack's claim.

The students of Clymene were clearly blind, since almost all of my relatives kept commenting on how Mack and I were like male and female versions of the other. I did wonder for a while why no one had pointed it out, but as soon as I recalled my status I'm the school, I no longer questioned it.

I shook my head and sighed to myself, before I escaped my dream bubble. I was practically daydreaming at the front gate!

I rushed into English just before the bell rang, signalling the start of class.

"Hi, Miss Irwin!" Mrs Jones greets me with a knowing smile. "We were almost about to begin."

"Good morning to you too, Mrs Jones." I mutter under my breath as I sheepishly made a beeline towards my seat.

The first thing I noticed when I looked at the board was the reminder I had received a few days ago. It was the remind the few juniors who had the Club Re-Selection this afternoon. It was actually Club Selection for freshmen, but anyone part or temporarily part of Clubless had a chance to pick a new club or sport.
