Chapter 05-Dylan: What A Flirt

DYLAN'S POV

"Alright babies, I think we should call it a day!" Colin says, picking up the soccer ball from the goalpost.

Panting, I wiped off my sweat. Today's practice was really stress-relieving. I sort of forgot all the worries of starting school during the time we were focused on kicking the ball around. I grin at Peter and the rest of my team as we head towards the changing rooms.

"Hey, I heard Mack and the swim team are coming back with good results." Colin says to the team as we all changed his tone serious as he checks us out as usual. "We better not lose out to them. Because I sure want to see our team doing good, even though this is extra commitment."

I agree with him. The Clymene swim team were defending champions of the swimming scene. Of course, they were also mentored by the best of the best. Eric Irwin, who holds the country's best swimming record, third best swimmer in the world, was coaching them. I admit I was a little jealous of Mack, and now I'm jealous of Maya, because apparently they're related. Maybe Mack or Maya was a January baby, while the other was born in December? Who knows! I certainly don't.

We obviously can't let the sports scene of Clymene get stolen by the swim team. I mean, soccer needs its fair share of space as one of the extra activities. I'm going to have to do my best, and bring glory to Clymene through both sports.

The next morning, it was absolute chaos. Banners were everywhere, and my locker was unfortunately between Mack's and Finn's lockers. Both of them were the captains. I highly doubt I could make it for class without the numerous amount of people surrounding both boys' lockers, and blocking mine. It never ceases to annoy me, because our lockers never change until we graduate. To make things even better, we were in the same year, which meant we were graduating together.

"Excuse me, I need to get to my locker." I tried, but my voice was drowned by both guys and girls, as the swim team makes their grand entrance. Word of their win spread faster than wins of other things, like the Olympics. The gossip here was that fast. It made things even bigger since the guys and the girls teams both came back with first place. The jealous monster inside of me liked to think that it was all the effort of Coach Eric, but I knew all of the swim team members possessed their own skill as well.

After ten minutes of trying to get to my locker, I realise I was still at the same spot. Sighing, I decided to walk to class. I guess I would just have to copy everything off the board and the book references then. I looked at the first lesson. Art. Mr Dawg is surely shipping me off to detention then. It certainly didn't help that the only paper I had was green with black lines.

I walked in as silently as possible, to find out that Mr Dawg hasn't even reached yet. I see Maya, and her furrowed brows knitted together as she tries to perfect her sketch.

I slide towards my assigned seat next to her. Taking a quick glance around the classroom, I realise she's the only one here. "How did you get in?" I asked. Based off experience, teachers were the only ones who had the key to the classrooms, and for club rooms only selected leaders and people were entitled to it. Club founders hold the key for life, unless they handed it to the alumni.

"Well," Maya says, biting her lip. "Mr Dawg must've forgot to lock the door yesterday. When I came, the door was already unlocked."

She was lying. Something about the way she reacted, and the way she spoke gave me the feeling that she wasn't telling the truth. I decided to let the matter slip for now.

"Mack's back, huh?" I muttered, bringing up the topic of the swim team and Maya's brother. She winced slightly, showing signs of dislike towards her own kin.
