George tossed and turned. He couldn't sleep to the sound of the country when he was used to the city. 'why are the crickets so damm loud' he thought. He lay there awake for a few minutes, then grabbed his phone 1:45am. He swung his legs out of bed as quietly as possible, and walked down the stairs. Silently he unlocked the door and turned the knob pushing the front door open. Cool air hit his face. He sat on the swinging bench on the front porch and took a deep breath. 'I have to figure out how to sleep or it's going to be a long ass summer' he thought
Dream's eyes flashed open to his phone vibrating from a silent alarm, 2:00am. He silently got up and pulled on jeans and a tee shirt. He quietly walked down the stairs. He reached his hand up to unlock the front door, but it was already unlocked. 'hu thats weird' He thought but still turned the handle and pushed the door open. As he opened the door he saw something move on the swing next to the door. He jumped, and caught a scream on his throat. Terrified, until he recognized the small frame of George on the swing.
"What the hell are you doing?" Dream whisper screamed at George.
"I couldn't sleep, what the hell are you doing?" George shot back clearly Dream had scared him but he tried to hide it.
"I'm sneaking out but Mr. city boy couldn't sleep" Dream said with an eye roll.
"Why" George said confused on what Dream was planning on doing way out in the middle on no where.
"A couple of my buddies are having a bomb fire down by the river" Dream said as if it should be obvious.
The boys stood there for a second starting at each other. Dream stood there contemplating
'What does he want me to say, why is he just looking at me?' George thought
The Suddenly Dream blurted out "So are you coming in that" gesturing to his gray sweat pants and bare chest.
"W-what.. uh. No! give me like five minutes." George stammered out 'he wants me to come with him? Why?' He thought as he quietly, but quickly ran up the stairs to put on jeans and a tee shirt.
Dream didn't know why he told George to come but he was weirdly excited he was coming.
George opened the door and walked out. With out a word Dream walked quickly to an old dark green truck, next to the barn. Dream opened the driver door and got in. George jogged over to the passenger door to hop in. Dream pulled out of the drive way, with no head lights. Slowly so he didn't wake his parents. Once he got far enough from his house he flicked on the head lights and clicked the radio.
"And there's somethin' 'bout a truck in a field, And a girl in a red sundress with an ice cold beer to her lips..." Played from the speakers.
Dream quietly sang along. George did think he would like country music, but something about the way Dream sang along made him smile and hum along.
They pulled up to a circle of pickups backed up around a bomb fire people where sitting on tailgates and logs placed on the ground. Dream opened the door and walked over to a group of guys on a tailgate. George followed unsure if he should go with Dream.
"Dude what's up" one of the guys said. George watched as the did some sort of hand shake, high five thing.
"Nick, dude how's it going" Dream responded. Nick opened to cooler for Dream. He reached in and grabbed a can.
"Aye George what'd you drink? We have Coors or bush." Dream said looking back at George. Hand still in the cooler.
"W-what? I- um, I'm only 16" George stammered out.
"Um.. ok?" Dream said confused. The other guys laughed.
"Dream where did you find this one?" one of them said with a shit eating grin. Realization dawned on Dream. 'So city kids actually don't drink? God this summers gonna be interesting with a city boy around'
"We all drink out here, city boy, there's not much else to do." Dream said with a chuckle, throwing George a Coors light. George caught the can clumsy. He looked down at it then back up at dreams friendly, encouraging, green eyes. Over to the other guys taunting eyes.
"Come on city boy, you need one of the girly drinks?" A random guy from the group said holding up a mikes hard lemonade.
"Dude, shut it" Dream said.
It sounded angrier then he intended. Something about someone else calling George city boy made him mad. 'How does he do this to me?' Dream thought 'he's just a stupid kid from the city'
George looked back at Dream, the opened the can and downed the whole thing. 'People drink this for fun? It tastes like shit.' George thought, he stoped and felt dizzy right away.
"Whoa whoa. Hay George, slow down. You have never drank before and your probably a light weight" Dream said with concern in his eyes.
'Why do I care about him so much.' Dream was confused why this random guy from New York could turn him all soft. 'If he wants to get shot faced he can it's not my job to look after him' Dream thought irrationally angry at George but the he stoped himself 'I brought him out here I told him to drink the least I can do is make sure he doesn't get alcohol poisoning'
"Dream dude why do you care?" Even sneered
"I brought him here I can't have him throwing up in my truck." Dream replied, trying hard to mask his care for George with car for his truck.
"I'm fine Dream." George responded "don't worry about me dude"
