I found Olivia first thing Wednesday morning when I arrived to school.
"I have to talk to you," I said.
"About what?" She said without turning to look at me.
I know she was mad about what she saw. I also knew she had already started to assume things between Matt and me and would probably grill me later to see if I liked him.
"Because you're my best friend and I have to talk to you about something," I replied.
"Wouldn't you rather go talk to Matt?" She asked. "You two seem pretty close lately. I wouldn't be surprised if he was your new best friend." She finally said, sticking her head out of her locker and facing me.
Okay, I guess I deserved that.
"Liv, come on. You know it isn't like that. I'm not dating him. I know how you feel about him. He just...really wants me to play. And, I don't know, it's nice to have people supporting me."
She shook her head and glared at me. "Anybody else Mags, anybody but him."
"Well what do you want me to do? Tell him not to hang out with me anymore?"
"Yes!" Olivia cried while rubbing her face. She looked at me and I could see her big brown eyes starting to well up with tears. "I can't believe you would do this to me."
"I don't even know what I'm doing!" I shot back. "You wont tell me anything, so how can I prevent myself from doing something I don't even know about? For all I know, you could have crushed him."
She looked at me for what felt like an eternity. "I don't want to talk about this with you."
"Then I'm sorry but I can't not hang out with him because you don't want to tell me, which is fine, by the way."
Silence again.
"Look, what is it you wanted to tell me?" She asked tiredly.
"Oh," I said contemplating whether I should tell her about Harry or not. "Just what we were just talking about I guess... I just wanted to apologize for yesterday."
She nodded. "How was practice?"
"Pretty good, I don't think I would have been cut if he chose yesterday."
"So...Harry is still Harry then?"
I'm hoping I didn't blush at the mention of his name...or if I did, that it wasn't noticeable.
"Yeah, still Harry."
"Right." She paused. "So I guess you aren't going to tell me?"
"Tell you what?"
"Well, I thought, since we were best friends and all, that you would tell me that Harry Styles asked you out yesterday," she said flatly. "But I guess you don't trust me enough to help you figure out what to do."
My stomach hit the floor, people already knew about me and Harry? He'd only asked me yesterday after practice and I know I haven't told anyone yet.
"Oh, yeah. That." I played if off like it wasn't a big deal. "I was just thinking through things myself first, and then I was probably going to call my brother and, uh, see what he thought. And then I was going to ask you."
"Why don't you try the truth for once, Mags? I know you said yes. Do you even remember everything he put you through? How he ditched you when your dad died? How he threw away your friendship for football and Kendall Black?"
"I remember all of it, probably a little bit better than you. But my dad used to tell me that everyone deserves a second chance. And he would have wanted that rule to include Harry." I said quietly.
