(After the opening, the first scene is of random students schmoozing at the dance. Barbara Oobleck is shown to be listening intently as Pearl Port laughs over some unheard anecdote. Onika is standing off to the side with Glen Goodwitch until General Jaidyn Ironwood offers her hand for him to dance with her. Jen Arc approaches Randy Rose, who is standing pensively near the refreshments tables.)
Jen: I see you're hiding at the punch bowl too.
Randy: Yep.
Jen: To the socially awkward.
(Randy giggles and they clink glasses.)
Randy: Sorry things didn't work out with Wess.
Jen: Meh, it's fine. Natalia's pretty "cool". I get why he went with her.
Randy: What do you mean?
Jen: Well, come on, not many people can pull off blue hair.
(Jen begins to drink her punch.)
Randy: No, I mean, Wess came to the dance alone.
(Jen chokes in surprise.)
Jen: Uh, what?
(Wess Schnee is shown trying desperately to coax life out of a wilting white rose. When he fails, he looks visibly upset.)
Randy: Yeah, he said that he had too much to focus on to worry about girls.
(Laughter draws Wess' attention to Sunny Wukong, Blane Belladonna, and Natalia Vasilias as the latter entertains the others with some impressions and other silly faces. Jen, shown to be observing as well, becomes visibly perturbed.)
Jen: Hold my punch.
(Jen hands Randy her glass and no sooner than she vanishes from sight does he choose to drink from her cup. As Jen makes her way across the room, shoving other students aside she stops short and watches as Peter Nikos passes by. She watches him walk glumly up the stairs and seems to have a change of heart.)
(The scene shifts to Peter on a balcony as Jen approaches behind him.)
Jen: Hey, Peter.
(Peter turns around to face her.)
Peter: Hello, Jen.
Jen: You okay? I haven't seen you tonight.
Peter: Arrived late, I'm afraid.
Jen: Well, you look really nice.
Peter: Thank you.
Jen: Your, uh, date isn't going to beat me up for saying that, is she?
Peter: I think you're safe for tonight.
Jen: So, where is the girl?
(Peter turns back toward Jen.)
Peter: There is no girl.
Jaune: What?
Peter: Nobody asked me.
Jen: But that's...You're Peter Nikos! H-How could nobody ask you?
Peter: I've been blessed with incredible talents and opportunities. I'm constantly surrounded by love and praise, but when you're placed on a pedestal like that for so long, you become separated from the people that put you there in the first place. Everyone assumes I'm too good for them. That I'm on a level they simply can't attain. It's become impossible to form any sort of meaningful relationship with people. That's what I like about you. When we met, you didn't even know my name. You treated me just like anyone else. And thanks to you, I've made friendships that will last a lifetime. I guess, you're the kind of girl I wish I was here with. Someone who just saw me for me.
(Peter looks at Jen and then walks away while Jen simply stares in astonishment.)
Jen: W-Wai-!
