(A ship flies through the skies over Vale and the camera pans down to the city streets. The owner of the Dust shop "From Dust Till Dawn" is hanging a sign declaring its re-opening. As she climbs down from his ladder, she stumbles and falls. Emmet Sustrai appears next to her.)
Emmet: (giggling) 'Scuse me, sorry. I'm not really from around here. Would you mind pointing me in the direction of this shop?
(Emmet produces a piece of paper with writing on it and the shopkeep looks it over.)
Shopkeep: Hmm? Mm-hmm.
(Emmet walks away from the shop owner as both wave goodbye and passes Maria Black at a corner.)
Maria: I knew you were lost.
Emmet: Maria, I will seriously pay you to shut up. (He produces a wallet with Lien and waves it in Maria's face.)
Maria: That's not your money.
Emmet: But it can be yours for 5 minutes of silence.
Maria: Mmmm... no deal.
Emmet: Fine. (Emmet takes the Lien and tosses the wallet, turning to walk away.)
Maria: Whatever. You want me.
(More of the city is shown, including a café where two extras sit chatting. Maria and Emmet are walking through the city.)
Maria: So, how much farther?
Emmet: A few blocks.
Maria: Ugh... this place is so dull.
Emmet: Eh, I kinda like it. Tall buildings, diverse culture...
Maria: And nice dopey people who are easy to pickpocket.
(Emerald stops.)
Emmet: That's every city.
Maria: (Maria play acts as a victim.) Ooh, Emmet! Master thief! Please don't take my money! I barely have enough to get by!
(Emmet glares at her, groaning angrily. He then walks away from her.)
Maria: Ugh... you're no fun today.
(Maria follows behind Emmet. The scene shifts to Emmet and Maria entering a shop full of books. The shop owner can be heard humming a tune. Maria stops near the door to look at books while Emmet approaches the counter and rings a service bell.)
Tessa: Be right there! (Emmet looks back at Maria. The shop owner is seen through a set of double doors carrying stacks of books as she walks backwards and out toward the counter.) Welcome to "Tessa's Book Trade", home to every book under the sun! (She sets the stacks down offscreen.) How may I... (Turning around, she gasps and hesitates upon recognizing the two of them. Maria is now holding a book.) How may I help you?
Maria: (Although the book is open, Maria is looking at Tessa.) Just browsing. (She shuts the book.)
Emmet: Actually, I was wondering, do you have any copies of "The Thief and The Butcher"?
Tessa: Yes we do.
Emmet: (excitedly) That's great.
Tessa: Would you... like a copy?
Emmet: No, just wondering. (Maria closes another book.) Oh, oh! What about "Violet's Garden"? In paperback?
Maria: She's got it. Hardback too. (Maria produces a book.)
Emmet: Ooh, options are nice.
Maria: Eh, no pictures. (Maria closes the book.) Hey! Do you have any comics?
