Later on that day, I was sitting by the pool, with Bad sitting down next to me. I was reading this book, even though I'm not much of a reader. Then this blonde girl was walking past, but she stopped when she noticed me.
"Hi, do you live here?" She asked, with a German accent.
"I do." I responded. "Do you?"
She inhaled a breath. "Kind of." She walked over to me.
Then she reached her hand out to me. "I'm Nikita Dusti, Niki for short. I'm the interim property manager."
I shook her hand. "Oh, I'm Zak, Arnelle."
Then I asked her a quick question. "Where's Minx?"
"I wanted to ask you.." She said.
I tensed up.
"Well, actually, all of the tenants here." Niki giggled.
Oh, phew.
"She missed a beauty appointment the other day and I've been trying to keep in touch with her." Niki told me, grasping her hand bag that she held. "I hope she turns up soon.."
"You probably wouldn't have you'd have met her." I said.
She gave a small smile. "I'm her cousin."
I shrugged. "Well, shit. I'm sorry."
She laughed a bit. "Seriously, it's fine. Minx can be really intense on people."
I chuckled as she leaned over a little.
"Unlike this little Buddy! Hey!" She pat Bad's head. "Isn't he friendly?"
"Ms. Dusti?" A voice called her.
"I'm in here!" She called, standing up.
A certain black haired man walked into the place, wearing a police uniform. He was holding what seemed to be a note pad.
I lost my little smile, recognizing the man.
"No way." I said. "Vurb?"
"Wow." He responded.
Bad noticed the officer walking up, and started growling.
"Oh, easy, killer, easy there." Vurb said.
"Sh, Bad." I rubbed his head to calm him down.
"You guys know each other?" Niki asked.
"Well, we've met." I said.
"Not about-" Both Vurb and I said.
"This.." I said. I was pretty surprised.
"You're a cop." I pointed out. "Wow."
He nodded. "Yeah."
"I-I was going to text you. I swear to god, I was." I said. "I was just-"
"No, no, it's cool, really, man." Vurb said.
"No, really, I really was." I told him.
"Please, Zak, it's fine. You're all good." Vurb chuckled.
"I'm still going to." I said. "Playing, hard to get."
Vurb grabbed the badge hanging on his necklace. "Just, you know, on duty, so."
"Okay, I'll stop." I stopped randomly talking words out.
We had a little awkward silence.
"Well, if you or Bad ever need anything, please don't be afraid to ask." Niki said.
