Birds chirped as the sun arose on a new day. Lighting the green fields of a small village out in the farmlands of Russia a small house on a hill overlooked the town below. In this house lived a small family called the Elrics. This family was made up of Inko, a small and kind woman with green hair. Izuku, a bubbly young child with a personality that outshined the sun with hair that matches his mother. And the father Van Hohenheim, a tall blond man with a strict personality who has been away for the past few months due to work. However today was going to be a bit different for the family as it was a special day for the young Elric.

As the light entered Izuku's bedroom his bed was illuminated to show that it was empty. Looking around the room Izuku could be found in front of his closet figuring out what to wear for his special day. Though Izuku was more accustomed to sleeping in, today was a bit different. For today was his fourth birthday and who wouldn't be pumped for their birthday. After getting his perfect birthday suit ready, which was just his normal red t-shirt and khakis, he walked down the hall of the small house and he saw his mom happily making pancakes for his birthday. They were nowhere near the richest people in the world, let alone this town, but his mom would always make sure his birthday was special.

Izuku smiled and sat down at his spot on the table. The room was mostly silent but was broken by Izuku's loud words "MORNING MOM!" Inko gave a quick jump and looked around to see her little boy with the brightest of smiles on. "Oh honey, you shouldn't be scaring your mom like that, it's rude. I don't think I should give you these now." as she said those last few words she turned around to show the plate of pancakes she made for him. He gasped as he saw their glory "I'm so sorry moma, it won't happen again!" she sat the cakes down in front of the green haired boy and rested her hand on his head "Good. Now enjoy your pancakes, birthday boy." She gave him a warm smile as she kissed him on his forehead. She went back to the kitchen to finish the dishes from the meal she just made him. Izuku was just finishing his meal when he heard the crashing of a plate on the floor. Hurting his little feet over to the kitchen he saw his mom hunched over with her hand over her mouth. "Mama? Are you okay?" he said those words as he gave her a hug to make her feel better. As she took her hand from her mouth she saw the mass amount of blood she had just coughed up. She turned to him with another smile and put her non bloodied hand on his head "Of course sweetie. Now why don't you run along to Winry's place? You two still have to go to school right?" Izuku looked up at her as he backed away but shook his head yes as to agree with her. Running up to the cubby by the door he grabbed shoes and his bag of supplies. "Bye mom! I'm off to school! Love you!" He then closed the door and sped off into the distance. However what he missed was that his mother was not standing but now laying on the floor of the kitchen.

As he walked down the road to Winry's he was greeted by the father and son who worked the field they were nice people and would often give him and his mother free food when they couldn't afford it. Soon he saw upon a small clearing Winry's house, a large two story house with a wooden sign outside it reading 'Auto Mail'. The Rockbells were quite well off themselves with a very successful automail industry. Izuku and Winry have known each other since they were born since their parents were very close drinking friends. However both her parents and his father have been away ever since the rebellion in the east started. Due to this both started to hang out more and have become even closer. Izuku, having finally made it to the door of the house, decided not to ring the doorbell knowing Winry was very likely still asleep. So he just sat there for a good thirty minutes when a blond girl a few inches taller than him came out of the door. "HI WINRY!" a sudden scream and slap from Winry jogged Izuku's memory of the events that happened earlier that morning. "Sorry about that Winry, I shouldn't have scared you." Izuku bowed his head towards Winry in an apologetic tone "No duh idiot! Didn't your mom ever tell you not to scare a lady?!" Izuku looked at her red face with a blank stare "Yeah! This morning when I scared her!" looking back at him she covered her face as she laughed. "Well then birthday boy. Should we get on our way?" she smiled at him which he reciprocated with a blinding smile of his own. They then began their journey to school.
