The morning light filtered through Mercy's curtains, casting a subdued glow in her room. However, instead of a sense of calm, an unsettling feeling of paranoia clung to the air. The necklace, once a mysterious gift, now felt like a weight around her neck, a constant reminder of an unseen presence. Every creak of the floorboards and rustle of the leaves outside seemed magnified, heightening her awareness to the point where the ordinary sounds of the morning took on an ominous tone.
She couldn't shake the sensation that someone, somewhere, was privy to her most mundane actions. The mundane had turned into a landscape of suspicion, and even the familiar contours of her room seemed to harbor secrets.
The decision to confide in Soobin weighed heavily on her mind. The fear of sounding irrational battled with the urgency to share her unease. As she awaited Soobin's awakening, Mercy couldn't help but cast furtive glances over her shoulder, half-expecting a shadow or a presence that refused to reveal itself. The boundaries between reality and paranoia blurred, and the ordinary morning became a realm of uncertainty.
Her phone rang, and she looked down at it, exhaling a heavy breath when she saw Heeseung's name on the screen.
UNKNOWN
Answer it~
Reluctantly, Mercy responded, 'Hello, love,' her usual tone tinged with an underlying unease.
' Mina,' Heeseung's voice carried a breath of relief, momentarily pushing aside every worry. 'Are you okay?'
'Yeah,' Mercy replied, a chuckle of relief escaping her lips. She had to blink back the tears that had gathered—tears of relief. 'What's up?'
'I'm free next weekend,' Heeseung informed her. 'If you wanted to spend some time together.'
Normally, Mercy would have readily accepted, but this time, she hesitated. Staring down at her phone, she felt unsure whether to decline or not, and the mysterious sender, 'UNKNOWN,' remained silent.
'I, uh,' Mercy started, attempting to come up with an excuse. 'I'll have to see. I'm not entirely sure; I'm going to have to check our schedule, but I'll get back to you, alright?' The words hung in the air, a subtle hesitation woven into her response.
UNKNOWN
Good bunny.
The repulsive text flashed on her screen, and Mercy couldn't help but feel a wave of disgust. She instinctively covered her mouth, as if to suppress the unease welling up within her.
'Alright,' Heeseung's voice broke through on the other line, pulling her out of her disturbing thoughts. 'Just... let me know if something is wrong, okay?'
'Okay,' Mercy squeaked out, struggling to maintain composure.
'I love you, Merc,' he said.
'I love you more,' Mercy replied, trying to reassure herself even as an unsettling feeling lingered in the background, fueled by the mysterious messages that continued to invade her peace of mind.
